I find the brakes too fierce

Not really a problem and maybe in time I will get used to them, but I am trying hard, yes very hard, to perfect a very gentle braking technique and so far have not learned the technique,.

Are your brakes fierce ?

We were driving an auto at the weekend and the brakes did seem more "sudden" than on out own manual FL2. Did take a bit of getting used to though - GrinningLander is yours auto or manual? 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

Mine is an auto TD4
Even the gentlest press of the pedal causes too much breaking force imho

may just take time to get used to it

The brakes are pretty fierce - compared to our old Kia Sportage, very fierce indeed. We noted it in on our test drives in a HSE auto and it is more or less the same in our 1yr old GS auto.

However, you do get used to them. Generally me and swmbo are OK now (after four weeks with the car) - except in a panic situation when we can be a bit heavy-footed and, as the FL2 has 'panic braking assist' this may be just as designed.

So far we haven't tried the abs on the FL2 (deliberately or accidentally) but must do so on a suitable, safe, soft (gravelly car park?) surface - just so we know how it feels.

Lots of cars have brakes like this - swmbo nearly threw her mum through the windscreen when she braked approaching a roundabout when driving her parents Renault!

It's all about getting used to the car, be it FL2 or any other car, they all have different characteristics. After a period of time we all get used to the car.

My FL2 has just had all its brakes replaced, they new ones were very 'soft' to begin with, but you soon get used to it.

BTW I was horrified that all my brakes were replaced at just 45k miles, however the service manager told me my car was the best they had seen!! He suggested that first replacement averaged at just 25k miles, I must admit I thought that was dreadful. I was told that they have one customer who has had two full brake replacement at 38k miles

Overall I know my car gets treated well, which is why I'm still on original rubber at 45k miles and why my overall fuel consumption is 37.4 mpg over that mileage, that's all the more reason I'm surprised at the full brake replacement. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

I know it is a totally different type of vehicle and where I live 80% of the roads have no speed restrictions, but my last car BMW 320D Sport use to go through a set of pads on the front every 12K miles and a set on the rear pads every 20K. In the time I had the car (4 years) I went through a full set of disks in year two (replaced under warranty) and a full set of disks in year four.

Rear tyres were replaced every 12 months and front tyres every 16 months. When you are looking at a minimum of £200 each for 18” low profile tyres the costs of consumables soon add up.

With the FL2 I know that these parts will last a lot longer before replacement and reduce my overall cost of ownership.

Out of interest, you are using your right foot to brake aren't you? I borrowed an auto a few months ago and, being used to a manual gearbox, my left foot just couldn't help itself from getting involved in the whole driving experience and it ended up touching the brake at the same time that I had a little bit of throttle still on. I nearly went through the windscreen Shocked Laughing
