Both look much better being centre - sorry LR's idea of keeping it to the left on this model is stupid

Very true, although a little painful when, a similar looking (but slightly nicer looking), Peugeot 806 could be picked up for a few hundred quid! Rolling Eyes

Let's see how long it is before a new rear end is sculpted, re locate the number plate and get rid of the scalp severing corners, the latter of which have been covered with foam and gaffer tape at shows to prevent injury.

But it does need the alternating colour and / or finish horizontal stripes to detract from the height of the bodywork under the rear window. Remove those and you're left with a pillbox look.

Those are also the bits that will get scuffed or dragged though the fields by those who take the car fishing or shooting etc, makes sense to have those panels in black. better than scuffing metallic paint and leaving an expensive eyesore /repair. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Lol Laughing quote "Drive" on New D5 released AU in July.....

Quote:

No one likes to use unflattering terms like "Sssangyong", "Stavic" or "the Hunchback of the Midlands", but there's no denying the rear of the Discovery presents some visual challenges. From front on, it's far and away the most beautiful design this legendary vehicle has boasted in its square and awkward 27-year history, but the rear three-quarter look has something of a broken bird's wing about it.
Optimistic review apart from absurd cost of option (no news there) and entry model, particularly 2.0l version.

I can not share his view on the looks of the front of the car.

Him being so openly critical of the "square and awkward shape during its 27 year history" shows his complete lack of understanding that, before these cars became fashion baubles, they used to be designed first and foremost to be practical; whether it was being able to clearly see all the corners of the car when dealing with off road obstacles, to having the largest, square edged, space to mount the biggest possible roof rack, a vertical tailgate to mount a ladder to access it and a drop down tailgate to use as the first step on the way up, or a flat and square bonnet to use as a table - damn good for laying out OS maps (or even as a standing platform on a Defender!) and a huge glass area, with a low cut waistline (especially on the tailgate) for the best possible view out. The list could go on....

I feel it's a mistake, where brand and heritage is everything, to ditch the lot to create a "me too" design that is oh so similar to virtually every other (usually cheaper) manufacturer out there Evil or Very Mad

England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Santorini Black

ive just seen a transported coming off the A1 onto M18 heading towards Hull, full of various LR/RR

there were a couple of D5 on the upper deck, but due to rain and an idiot white van driver I couldn't get a half decent look at them.

However I did see the stepped roof.... looks a bit weird at first glance

And the B & C pillars in chrome or silver on a black car......... plus other shiny bits.......

so 1st quick look of the D5 on a transporter and im not overly impressed.

The fact that LR have covered the corners in foam and taped them up is therefore an admission of guilt when the first civil case is brought against them.
Do LR think that only show goers will catch their heads on the tailgate corners and not D5 owners and any of their passengers?

Huge design 'boo boo' by McGovern !
It won't happen with him though, as his head is too far up his backside!

Brothers First Edition has still not arrived! But here's me standing next to one! I think the D5 really suits black. Sadly white does not do it any justice. The only part of the car I don't like is the front. It's flared out at the arches BUT then from windscreen up it seems to look a bit compressed.
