6 months after buying them I fitted my Thule roof bars (for non-roof rail models) this weekend to shift some stuff, the wind noise was horrendous, like aplane taking off from the roof!!

Has anyone had experience of this? Would it be worth buying the aerobar instead of the standard to reduce the wind noise!!

I have the same as you, but only fit them on when I need them - that’s the advantage over the permanent mounted LR type that are noisy all the time .
Don’t know, but can’t imagine that the Thule aero bars would make much different  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc.

anything straped to the roof will be noisy just due to the wind resistance

I have the same set of bars, have only used them the once and recall them been quite noise, but nothing the stereo couldn't drowned out.

The aero bar might make a slight difference, but then once you strap something to it the noise will return, so you might aswell take them off when not needed.

I thought about gaffer taping up the holes where the bars meet the footpack, as i seem to recall a slight whistle Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I was thinking of getting the gaffer tape out for the holes as well, I may as well give it a try before spending some more hard earned!!

silicones a little bit perminant, they gaps we are talking about might need accessing at some point for adjustments

I think i saw some thule aerofoyle type attachments once ebay, but TBH when they go back on the car, somethings going to be strapped to it make windy noises so gaffer tape the way forward to me  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I'm going to try the tape first as well as I can still flog the bars on ebay if I've not messed up the adjustability!

I managed to sell my old A4 avant roof bars on ebay for more than I'd bought them for after 21/2 years use!
