Thanks for that. I've now found that the socket is not faulty, but I'm having problems trying to charge my Satnav.

Sounds like the adapter you are using is not giving enough or even too much power for your satnav

I have a TomTom that works sort of the same way. I don't know why. It will run via a 12v socket outlet in a car with the supplied car power lead, but not charge. Can only charge it indoors with the 240v charger adapter it came with. It's been like that from new. My Garmin before that would charge up whatever it was plugged into. Hardly use them nowadays though as our last two cars had inbuilt satnav and when I'm abroad I use the TomTom app on my iPhone.

I have a Garmin SatNav that will only charge using the cigar lighter adapter and USB lead they supplied.

I have a TomTom and it appears to charge only when connected but not switched on although when switched on it runs from the power supply, not the battery.

There are a lot of things that can affect how devices charge through USB.

Thanks to you all for the advice. I'm going to check the charger etc today, and, if need be, will purchase the correct charging adaptor for my Tomtom Start 25.
