You or I don't know how those that didn't vote would have voted, I suspect that a lot of remain supporters didn't vote because they were arogrant enough to think the public wouldn't be stupid enough to vote leave.

If the vote had gone the other way by the same margin, Farage said he would demand another

Which begs the question "who's the more stupid?"

If the vote had gone the other way by the same margin, Farage said he would demand another

And what would have been your reply to that ?
Exactly.
So , as has already been said "GET OVER IT".

England

Those that didn't vote must be counted as the "don't cares" so support neither the Remainers or Brexiters, a majority is just that, they got the most votes. Referendums that change the status quo should be biased towards the existing condition due to the "tomorrow effect" and minds change when it all goes tits up.
Referring to the Doctors reasoning on the Parliament being the legal body for the decision, I again state the legal fraternity take no notice of common sense, Parliament is there to act on the populations behalf, in this case there has been a referendum and the public has spoken, PWhat diameter and depth pleasearliament and the government has been told to exit the EU, Parliament not doing so is not acting on behalf of the public, despite those who lost arguing against the referendum result. It may well be the legal way, but it is not the sensible way and it is costing millions, the easy way out and cheapest would have been Parliament must vote the same way as the referendum. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

nice to see I sparked a debate on terminology here Laughing

my original point was basically that we are a democratic society, a democratic vote/referendum was held, and of those that voted more people voted to leave EU rather than remain. It may not have been a great % margin more voted to leave, but it was still more - ergo a majority.

if the remainers would like, we could always go to a Communist style of leadership, or a 1930's/1940's Germany style of leadership, where the will of the few is imposed by force onto the many ?

Cameron for being so scared of UKIP he called the referendum in the first place

Exactly.

That's not the point, someone above implied that if the vote had gone the other way, the leavers would just have accepted it without a fight.

As I have already said, why should I?

If May had her way, that's what the UK would have.
Thankfully there are independent courts to ensure she can't.

1930's Germany was exactly the opposite of that, the will of the majority imposed, to devastating effect, on the few.

Reading this thread I can understand how the referendum voted to leave, the 'exiteers' have no idea what the Supreme court ruling is about and probably had no idea of the consequences other than immigration being top of their list when they voted.
The Supreme court is protecting the law of the land and in effect ensuring that any government cannot bulldoze their actions through by the few.
It will make no difference to Brexit, Parliament will abide by the constituents votes but Article 50 may well have some amendments.

E Yorks , Well put Sir, and to Lost in France I also agree with your comment " why should I". Thumbs Up

I suspect that many ordinary people are going to be very disappointed with the version of exit that they end up with.

Wages will not increase overnight, cost of living will not fall, legislation will not change overnight, the NHS could get 350million a week and the management will still Censored it away, people with dodgy accents will not be turned away at the airport, and immigrant deportation fleets will not be sailing from Hull every Wednesday !

Censored run down towns will not be regenerated because the Global economy will still rule , big business, private equity and Banking will still call the shots and if they don't want jobs in Scraglinthorpe they will not put them there. We will not buy British any more than we do now, but we might short term sell a fair bit less.

But those are my personal views, and I'm just as entitled to them as the leavers are entitled to their brave new worlds ( Cue Land of Hope and Glory playing over the final whistle of the 1966 World Cup final ....) 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Thread locked - this has yet again degenerated into name calling and bickering. Not acceptable.
