Norway 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

Thank you Cambo for an excellent and a very informative guide on how to install DAB in Freelander 2. I want to do the same install and I have followed your list of the parts needed. I have got all the parts except LR005457 (Coax20 cable repair assembly) and LR005448 (Most12 cable repair). If you have replacement parts to LR005457 and LR005448 to sell, I am more than happy to buy them from you. Smile

Best regards
Haakon

Nope, sorry, that's the base audio system, no upgrades on that at all...

EDIT

Well actually...

Funny thing is that in the Jag XF, you can have a Base audio system, without an external amplifier, but with the MOST network to add things like the Bluetooth phone or DAB...

So perhaps it is possible, but i'm quite sure you would have to change the radio head unit in order to do this. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Thanks for quick reply.

I am quite sure that the unit is without MOST fibre network.

IF I would be that crazy to change the unit to MOST, then I guess it will be necessary change amplifier and all.

Am I correct here?

The Danish Radio are closing down FM broadcast so ....

Best regards
Alex

As I mentioned before and in other threads, the infotainment system in the Freelander2 and the Jag XF was the same components; the radio head unit, phone module, DAB module, audio amplifier, all the same between models.

There was a base-model of the Jag XF that did not have an audio amplifier, but it did have the MOST network in order for the touchscreen and bluetooth module to work with the head unit (all XF's have touchscreen), so therefore I think it will be possible to have or fit a head unit without the external amplifier that will have an active MOST network that you could connect a phone &/or DAB module to.

Hell it could even be the existing head unit in your car, I will need to check the parts in the catalogue and cross reference with the XF. Even if this were the case, as a minimum you will need to swap the front fascia plate for the radio over to the one from a midline or highline system, with the bigger LCD screen, phone button, etc...

But no matter what you do, you will need a suitable diagnostic tool to edit the CCF to make this work. I have a friend in the north of Germany who can do this work, if you don't mind taking a drive south?

But first let me check out the parts differences between the Freelander2 and the Jag XF.

Send me an email with the VIN of your car and your email address please! 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

OK I looked into the situation a bit more with the Base audio in the Freelander2 and the Jag XF.

Here's the short explanation;

The Base audio in the FL2 does not have the MOST fiber optic system at all. The speakers are powered directly from the head unit, no external amplifier.

The Base audio in the Jag XF does have a MOST network, where you can connect the Bluetooth Phone and DAB modules. The speakers are powered directly from the head unit, no external amplifier.

The Midline / Premium audio in the FL2 and the XF use the exact same head unit and external amplifier, the only difference between the head units is the front fascia panel which is removable on both (and could be swapped over).

So the idea would be to take a Base head unit from a Jag XF, and put the FL2 fasica on it. However...

The connectors on the back of the head units are not the same, although they have the same number of connections, the plugs would have to be swapped or some some of adaptor made up to go in between the original FL2 loom and the Jag XF head unit. This would not be too hard to make up I think, since you can buy the connectors as spares from JLR, and there are also ISO adaptors for fitting aftermarket head units into these cars.

Then you would need the DAB module, antenna, etc.., and if you wanted to add the Bluetooth Phone then it's additional modules & wiring as well. And then what about Navigation, etc...

After buying all these parts, and then having to sort out the programming to make it work, I think it would probably be cheaper & easier to buy a double-din aftermarket stereo that already has DAB, Bluetooth, Nav, etc...

You can buy double-din installation kits to fit in the dashboard of the FL2, and also the ISO adaptors to make the installation relatively easy..

I think this will be more cost effective, and simpler in the end.

Sorry but it's just one of those things... Base audio cars are not worth the cost & effort of upgrading with factory parts. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Hi Cambo

Tnx for your investigation. MUCH appreciated.
Do you have a part no for the Jag XF base unit or similar?
I will try to find a base unit as a start.
If I could find one at a good price, I might give it try upgrading the system.

Best regards
Alex

Without an SDD diagnostic system to make the CCF changes, you will struggle with changing the head unit for an XF one...

But in any case...

The XF Base audio head unit with 6-CD is;

7F6N-18C815-BA C2Z7039 JAGUAR SOUND SYSTEM SIX DISC 140W
7F6N-18C815-BB C2P21539 JAGUAR SOUND SYSTEM SIX DISC 140W
7F6N-18C815-BC C2P22869 JAGUAR SOUND SYSTEM SIX DISC 140W

Any of those part numbers, they are just revisions. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

I have all the bits that Cambo suggested, but still looking to acquire the following; should be cheap parts based on what I can see FL part sites, but seem to be no stock

1 x LR005457 Coax20 cable repair assembly
2 x LR005448 Most12 cable repair

Can anyone help? Any alternatives of ways around this? Confused

Sorry it's taken a while to get this sorted, but I finally made up a batch of antenna cables, as replacements for the LR005457 cable which is no longer available.

Well I've installed all the bits and got CCF programmed. Unfortunately still no DAB - I get code B1A56 - 'Antenna/Driver seat slide control relay failure/slide relay output is not equal to feedback'

Interestingly the AM band didn't previously work but now does - presumably as the unit got re-flashed as part of the CCF editing. All other functions to do with head unit seem to work fine and there appears no issue with any other drivers seat functions.

Would I be right in assuming this code covers a multitude of faults and the most likely culprit is the signal booster or circuit to and from it?

Thanks for any input, its frustrating to be so close and yet so far 2007 Black Freelander 2 HSE - hers
