United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Lago Grey

In that context is it not just original Freelander or FL2? Although for reasons outlined above they would appear to be asking the wrong question!

The OP referred to field D2 on the V5, but this field appears both to be DVLA-specific and to have different formats, and appears not to relate to LR model codes. I have still been unable to find a decoder for this field.

The actual value of the D2 - Type field on my v5c is "Variant S4FI2F Version B5H2". Make of that what you will, but it's definitely not a Suzuki Swift - it's been places a Swift wouldn't go. Smile

What do others Type fields look like?

Me too. Seems that there are folk on here who have Land rover stamped on their bones. Those of us new to the brand seem to be treated with disdain. Like Captin, I too have found the same question LF of FA when searching for bits and pieces. Who, therefore, are the fools ? I did not ask the original question just for the sake of asking. Purely because certain suppliers ask you is it one or the other? Not rocket science so some Constructive comments would be welcome, and please stop assuming that, just because we are 'Newbies' to Land Rover, that we are new to motoring matters. Thank you.

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Lago Grey

I have recently purchased a s/h Freelander 2007 SE Auto
Buying parts is difficult as you are expected to know the difference between FA & LF variants.
After a bit of digging I've found out what is meant.
They are both engine models for the same Model Car
FA is for the 2179ccm 160BHP Diesel Automatic Engine
FA is for the 2179ccm 152BHP Diesel Manual Engine

The first 3 characters are either the manufacturers designation or the build factory

The next 2 are model designation: LA - Discovery 3/4, LS - RR Sport, LN - Freelander 1, LP - P38, LD - Defender etc
I was led to believe that all Freelander 2's were FA...

I would have thought that giving you the 'De Facto' Land Rover decoding of the VIN number should have been enough to satisfy whether there are FA or LF variants, certainly, according to the VIN, it would seem there are not.

According to LR the engine identifier is given at position 8

No one is treating anyone with disdain, or that isn't what is intended, please don't forget that this car has been with us since 2006 and some members have been around for just as long, when a poster asks a question it is generally answered, unfortunately in this instance the answer was not accepted as fact and the whole scenario has become confused, this is just as frustrating for new members as it is or established ones.
I would go back to your suppliers and ask where the FA or LF comes from as it doesn't seem to have been asked in the last few years?

Here is the VIN table showing the different options for digit 8.

If anyone can find out WHY suppliers are asking for this FA or LF it would be helpful to other members.

Netherlands 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 Sport Auto Barolo Black

Sorry to start this up again but I just noticed today that according to the Dutch RDW (SVA in UK?) my FL2 (a 2012 TD4 Auto) is of the LF type.

The VIN number of my car starts with SALFA2BC3CH.

No clue what is the difference with the FA type but many parts sold on ebay are not compatible when I select LF. Would be nice to know if these parts are really incompatible since parts compatible with LF type are harder to find.

It is most likely a third party parts supplier differentiation, it certainly doesn't fit with any LR codes.

... that said, watch this space Thumbs Up

I've asked more than one Land Rover dealer parts departments and they have no idea what LF or FA could be, it doesn't correspond with anything they have.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

im looking for a part on ebay and this question has arisen.

When putting my car details in it asks the FA or LF question, when i select the FA it gives the 150hp 110kw and 156hp 115kw on the LF option it gives 160hp 118kw. My V5 shows as an 118KW so it must be a LF model my vin SALFA23BX8.

Confused

This seems to be something specific to eBay (and possibly some other suppliers). It's not an 'official' designation, and your VIN number clearly shows that in Land Rover terms your car is an FA!
