No fuses.

Do not handle the bulbs with your bare fingers.

Seem to remember that there was a factory fix on some specs (that was quite crude) due to multiple bulb blows. Something like add some extra wire. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

OK got to route of problem.

Glass from previous exploding bulbs had jammed both high beam shutters!

Cleaned out both lamps, both now working. Very Happy

Headlamp Bulb Recommendation Please

Hi I have a 2014 FL2.

Can anybody recommend a long life bulb for the head lamps?

Many thanks

PS I know not to touch the glass of the bulb on replacement Rolling Eyes

I presume that these are the HB3 type you are referring to.

If you search you will find quite a lot of information already. I have used Halfords high output which consistently only lasted a month or two, Osram Nightbreakers which seem to last 3 or 4 months ish

Best option for durability is probably to use a standard output branded bulb and accept that the light output is pretty poor

Things move on though since a lot of the answers both Philips and Osram are offering new bulbs

The supplier above is very good, also worth doing a quick Google for discount codes in their name , the Philips +150 might be worth a punt, I've got the Philips Extreme Vision in the Freelander both main and dip, and they are a big improvement , having said that I've got Osram Nightbreakers in the Subaru's main, but mainly as it's an oddball fitment, not that it's better . 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

the standard Phillips ones i found to the best best

Just had to replace two Halfords HB3 (9005) '120%' bulbs within two days of each other. Both shattered. Only fitted them early December!

I wonder how much truth in the theory that some bulbs are physically to big and snag on the high beam shutter?

I put the originals back in but have two Lucas standard bulbs to pick up later from Euro Car parts. See how they last. Gone:

Its a bit of a minefield this bulb malarky!

I have a 2013 freelander with the facelift lights but want to improve the output and make them whiter to match the LED day time running lights. I have read quite a lot of posts but i am still unsure. Am i right in thinking i need H7 bulb fitment? Also, the OSRAM nightbreaker have been mentioned quite a lot - can anyone confirm that these fit well and wont shatter as some mentioned? Also, sorry another question, does anyone know roughly how long these would last? I don't want to change the bulbs for them only to last a few months - a year plus and i would probably change.

Regards

Yes ajames the lights on the face-lift models are shocking.

Up-rated bulbs do not last. I learnt that with my previous FL2 so dont bother now. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
