new owner advice please

Hi

New owner (as in bought it today!) with a few questions

Only one key will lock/unlock the car (both will start it) I was told it needed "charging" from the car so have driven 2 hours with it in to no avail.

The passenger rear door does not unlock on the remote (locks fine) I have to nudge the lock tab on the internal handle before being able to open the door - is it lazy, in need of adjustment or replacement?

Both rear tyres show excessive wear on the outer 30mm - is normal? (handles fine)

The car has 206,000 miles on the clock, but seems entirely happy with life other than these niggles
I've had several Range Rovers and Freelander 1 in the past but this is the 1st F2, so would appreciate an experience opinion

cheers

Using the SEARCH facility will find you lots on keys and door locks. Regarding the tyres, I suspect the wear was on the front and they've been swapped over to the rear, but a FOUR-WHEEL alignment check from a specialist should solve it. Some tyres (Pirellis) seem to wear more on the shoulders. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

welcome.
I cant help you with the first 2 questions but my front tyres on 19" rims had a lot of wear on the outer edges after 18K miles - I swapped them with the rears to even out the wear. Jules

Door lock motors are a common enough failure - all four of mine have failed at different times, and it's done a similar mileage.

Complete assembly is not expensive - a lot dearer than a scalextric motor, but by the time you have stripped one down, then hunted down a replacement motor, fitted it, and you now hope that it works and lasts. Don't Censored buy a new lock and fit it. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Regarding your keyfob... The battery may just be on the way out. Happened to me 2 months ago... The keyfob wouldn't open the doors or lock the vehicle, but once inserted in the slot it was "connected" hence the vehicle would recognize it.

It is a "non-replaceable" battery, so officially you need a new keyfob and reprogramm ($410 CAD out here). However a friend of mine quite handy with small electronic things was able to pry it open, de-solder the old battery, replace it with a new one ordered online, solder it and give it back to me; it works fine again. I'll have to dig up the battery info but I think some videos and tutorials are available on this forum and the internet if you suspect that is the issue and decide to go this way.

As for tyre wear, on my vehicle I'm getting a bit more wear on the inner shoulder (I suspect the suspension is beginning to sag a little bit), so maybe they were swapped recently from side to side as well.

Cheers

Wear on the inner shoulder is quite rare and implies excessive toe-out requiring wheel alignment. It can also be the result of sloppy steering joints. Outer shoulder wear is more likely as it is common on front wheel drive cars, which the FL2 essentially is, and results from enthusiastic cornering. As I wrote earlier, some tyres are more prone to it. On my last FL2 the Pirellis were showing a bit of outer edge wear, but the Wintrax, on about the same mileage, were evenly worn. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
