SAFE MODE?

We live in rural Spain and today whilst on a 4x4 run around the mountain ranges we stopped for a coffee and piece of cake (in the car tuck box, no coffee shop stuff) to take in the scenery (as you do) and then to set back home and behold we have no acceleration and diesel fumes from the back of the engine to put it mildly we were not amused, about half an hour later it was all back to normal, is this the normal expectation from an L359?

Anyone with a similar experience?

No fault codes, the engine sounded as if it were running on three and there were fumes from the back of the engine as if diesel (NOT OIL) was leaking onto the exhaust.

Only lights on the cluster, seat belt and battery, we free wheeled down the mountains with engine running to keep brakes and steering working, then we were towed onto the road and a lay by where we expected we'd have to be picked up by a recovery vehicle (Spanish Law) we unhitched the tow rope and was asked to roll back as I'd parked on the slack rope. Without too much thought I pressed the start and she fired up as if nothing had happened.

Really PŁ%%*D off as it brought the events of the day to a premature closure.

Never experienced this before and hopefully the last time.

Will be getting into a LR dealership for a diagnostic soon as visiting them on Thursday.

Being an older car, take the cover out and take a look at the fuel return pipes. They may leak at the injector connection and it's a serious problem....

I had a leaking injector on our MY10. it was the left hand one (if sitting in the car looking forwards).

The cabin filled with what we thought was leaking exhaust fumes, particularly when the car was stationary in traffic. It went into limp mode mode once following a heavy throttle demand (cruise control resumed). Following that, the car was recovered and the injector was (supposedly) replaced under warranty.

The same problem arose again (out of warranty), same injector, same pooling of diesel on th cylinder head, same exhaust like fumes in the cabin.

We paid for a new injector to be fitted by a Hertford independent. Not convinced it was changed though as the problem came back but coincidently we were trading the car in for the current car so left it as was.

I'm slowly going through it and hopefully may resolve the problem (hopefully) soon, I'm going to see a LR dealer north of where we live as a neighbour of ours is taking his L359 for a diagnostic so we'll see how good they are, may book in for a diagnostic & service thus they may come up with something?

SAFE MODE?

Hi,

As i said in my previous post that I would get a diagnostic done and so we have 49 faults found all of which are minor issues within the Engine Management and DO NOT disclose any problems with overheating. The man at the garage (ex Land Rover) hath said that is is one on the inherant faults of a Freelander showing a non communication (loss of signal) from the immobilzer.

The outcome/suggestion being, stop the engine get out of the car, remote lock it wait 5 seconds remote open it and it SHOULD fire up, i have yet to try it as on the 18th Dec we are of on another 4X4, hopefully same old problem will not arise as its also having a service on the 12th.

Fingers crossed.
