JLR announcement on electric cars

Reported in FT today - I take it that this is in addition to the recent ipace announcement.

Jaguar Land Rover has outlined plans to create 10,000 jobs and build electric cars in the Midlands if the government provides £450m of investment in local infrastructure, including extra power generating capacity.

The carmaker is hoping to take advantage of a government pledge to put battery development and electric vehicles at the heart of its industrial strategy.

I haven't got power in the garage, but the our block of Units has 415 volt 3 phase to every Unit. Will be connecting it up in the next year I hope. So in the long run we will be ready for electric cars.

Our biggest problem in Australia is the following:

If a solution to this problem can be solved then electric cars can travel around Australia. Or even simply to country towns!

Australian politics:

Our government is looking at reducing tax on fuel and introducing a GPS based milage tax for all cars (secret real time tracking of all cars!). The idea is to tax electric cars before they get a foothold. The Australian government bends over 450 degrees for the fossil fuel industry, including about au$4billion subsidies per annum.

The Barrier Reef is about 93% dead so don't bother coming here to look at it. Coral is starting to grow in Tasmania. Together with all our other problems & a 2° global increase in temperature, which based off an average 13.8° global average land temperature, is about a 12% increase in temperatures. A few years ago we had 46°C in Sydney by the ocean of all places (temperate climate), add 12% to that & things are not looking good! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Ive seen madmax,I thought you were short of fuel over there?

But I can understand how a country that is basically made of fuel and minerals is going to support traditional energy.

our country has build vast plants turning wheat into ethanol, but without sufficient govt support they turn them off as soon as the wheat price/fuel import price ratio goes over. it would be better to fix a wheat price giving farmers maybe 5 year contracts instead of the on off shambles of present

John deere atleast are working on an E tractor, but like all electric battery jobs, production energy vs fuel energy balance will be hard to balance, until a new simple battery is perfected

My dad put a deposit down for the new XJ (not actually announced yet short of an artist's impression) and the dealership said it could likely be fully electric. Sounds about right after reading that headline. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

England

Until oil reserves start to dwindle it will never happen.

Diesel is now seen as dirty ... they have milked the tax out of it so let's switch back to petrol, and fleece the tree huggers along the way with electric power.
