United Kingdom 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Orkney Grey
Nasty MOT Surprise

Failed MOT today with excessive play in both wishbones. Anyone else come across this problem? Does not go off road and I haven't hit any kerbs. Seems that bushes cannot be replaced so whole wishbones will have to be done at more cost than I wanted. No-one ever said owning LR products was cheap but I didn't expect this after 5 years. 12MY 61plate FL2 TD4 auto GS Orkney Grey Roof spoiler full size spare

Get a second opinion. Speaking as an MOT tester, a part has to be just about hanging off and about to fail for play to be classed as 'excessive'. Garage might just be after extra work. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

On a positive note ......thank your lucky stars you've got wishbones to do on a freelander and not a disco 3. That would be a real bad day in the office !

Thanks for responses. Mileage is 57K. Already arranged for fix as don't really have time to get 2nd opinions. Also, never had reason not to trust independent repairer before, they have done diagnostics and not charged previously. They don't do their own MOTs either so it would need collusion to generate unnecessary work. Hopefully it will be fixed tomorrow as it's not easy to get the golf clubs in the wife's Aygo. 12MY 61plate FL2 TD4 auto GS Orkney Grey Roof spoiler full size spare

£480 +VAT. Genuine LR parts and labour. DS Automotive in Rayleigh. They took it back to MOT station and disputed failure as they have never come across this fault on FL2 before. Said they do about 3 per week on Discos and RR Sports. 12MY 61plate FL2 TD4 auto GS Orkney Grey Roof spoiler full size spare

As an MOT Trainer I second that one. They now have to be really bad to fail Jaguar x-type sport gone

I thought if something in the test is marginal then the tester has to apply the rule "would I be happy for a close friend or relative to be in this car? " 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

Simples

Some rubber/synthetic bushes are to designed to show a relatively high degree of compliance and are therefore likely to show some movement
Such components should normally be rejected when serious deterioration of the bonding or flexible material is evident
