On the eve of this project becoming reality LR have been kind enough to add my favourite music streaming service to the growing list of Apps available through the InControl Apps portal, Spotify.
I have now added this to my home screen.



Currently I stream this but only have limited access to pause, skip forward & back, repeat with the touchscreen.
If I want to change music library selection or view library I have to pick up the phone which in this country is illegal and carries a heavy fine.



Very shortly, fingers crossed, I will have the full "App view" available on the Freelanders touchscreen......happy days!!!

We are currently being held up on this from what only can be described as a JLR irregularity in their software ( ), very frustrating and something we have experienced before unfortunately.
This is currently preventing us from carrying out an available update of the touchscreen.
As soon as Cambo and I have worked out a logical workaround I will update.
On a positive note I do have in my hands now the correct LVDS cables! MY15

Read the f Pace incontrol debacle with software, owners are furious

Cambo and I have come up with a logical workaround to JLR's software curve ball so should have a result in a couple weeks.
TIM is currently integrated and functioning in the infotainment system but because of the software irregularity, not accessible from the touchscreen as yet!
With all our research into the Gen 2.1 system we now know that the Freelander 2 is the hardest to retrofit InControl Apps to , so if we manage to pull this off then other JLR models with the Gen 2.1 Infotainment system isn't as hard, lol.
As a bonus, as i've updated to latest 2016 software I should have latest touchscreen architecture and functionality......if the software works  MY15

Update! Our "logical workaround" has not worked Infact it also requires an update to the software which is precisely the problem we have here. To push forward without verifying that LR have corrected their software bug we risk "bricking" my touchscreen like so many other dealers have achieved recently.
Would have been nice to have completed this project before Christmas but it looks like we need to do some more homework before risking a "flash" of the touchscreen ATM. MY15

Been silent on this thread for a while now and this has been intentional.
Felt that there was some third party interference happening with the software issue we were facing but now, after a lot of research now realize its just another LR phark up of monumental proportions. It seems that some people within the Software Engineering division need their butts kicked from here to the North Pole and it's not/hasn't improved with lots of SW bugs and problems with Land Rovers latest NGI (Next Generation Infotainment). Frankly, were now becoming use to it and "eyes rolling" has become frequent!
On the positive side we have devised a way of achieving what we need to proceed and are just waiting on a piece of hardware.
I also found out that L359 was the first Gen 2.1 platform to have InControl Apps even though the project was not follow through to production with MY15 F-Type and Evoque getting the system. Before these went into production L359 demonstrators were out and about showing off JLR's latest technology. So we are reasonably confident of pulling this off. We already know that sw is in the CJB with SDD confirming TIM communication on CAN.





Of even bigger discoveries is that we now have the InControl "Inhibit" settings to enable "Apple Car Play" & "Android Auto".
Untested of course at this stage but will be testing once we have enabled InControl Apps and will unlock from Land Rovers Apps, similar to what we've done with picture inhibit on Touch Screen. From what I can see can either have all 3 enabled or any combination, there's quite a few variations but won't know how this works until we try. MY15

It means that my iPhone (Android if you connected it) “Land Rover InControl” is now linked with my car and the phone is handing over control to the touchscreen. Up until now we’ve been a little unsure of exactly where the problem has been to get InControl Apps working, we now know exactly what the final piece of the puzzle is. It’s been a difficult journey with having to deal with a JLR software glitch. I’m hoping to have the final result shortly but nothing has been easy so far!

With InControl imminent I’ve been searching for an easy docking system for the phone which makes it easy to dock and remove. JLR’s offering frankly didn’t cut the mustard, very disappointingly only suitable for up to Iphone 7 and I have an IPhone “X”, good one JLR really no excuse for being so far behind the times as your accessory is for current models









As with JLR’s offering my Lightning/USB cable is neatly hidden out the way with me able to swap the USB between the InControl USB or the Gen2.1 USB. When InControl Apps is up and running will probably leave the phone docking station permanently connected via InControl USB as I’ll be able to stream via Bluetooth or listen through the InControl music

Don’t need Apple CarPlay when you have InControl Apps which has all the same apps but more. MY15
