Thanks pab. I always wondered why I had to restart the ignition if I forgot to close the windows.
a lack of knowledge is now rectified.

Well, it looks like I will have to take a hit, and a big one at that!

I haven't got the confidence, never mind the practical skills, to go about replacing the battery myself.

I have been to the local Landrover specialist and after telling him my problem he advised me that it will cost £104 + vat for the fob and £35 plus vat for putting the code in ( I cant remember his exact terminology. )

Anyone got any suggestions as to how I can lessen this expense.

I cant get away with using the key manually as the wife is on my case to get the situation rectified to her satisfaction.

Whilst I am on, how do I refer back to posts that I have made?

Thanks.

Ian.

There are companies which will refurbish your existing fobs for you, replacing battery, case, etc, as required. There are references to some of these on here - for example http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic27814.html. A search should reveal more.

You can refer back to your own posts simply by clicking My Posts in the menu at the top of each page.

Thanks for the link pab.
Posted my fob to the remotefobcentre on the Friday.
It was posted back to me on the Monday, all in working order, at a cost of £40.
Well impressed.

Too late for you now, but if sending a key away for repair/duplication. I'd always recommend return delivery to a work/friend/relatives address instead of the address where the vehicle is normally parked for security reasons. Thumbs Up Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Noted, but with 157000 on a 09 plate I think they would feel short changed if they nicked it.

They wouldn't find that out until they got in and started it though - do you think they'll just walk away from it having got that far? It especially wouldn't bother them if they are nicking it to break for spares - they're hardly likely to tell anyone the mileage that the engine/box/diff has done unless they are particularly honest thieves! Or maybe thick as thieves?! Rolling with laughter

Going back to my first car, an Austin 1100, I had that stolen on a pub car park. They abandoned it before they had time to leave the premises.

Another time it was nicked but abandoned less than 100 yards down the road.

The cars final demise came after the motorway cops pulled me over in the middle of the night. They didn't summons me but gleefully pulled the nearside wing away from the rust that was holding it together, leaving it flapping in the wind.

A Good point, as the Freelander 2 gets older the demand for secondhand spares is bound to rise. DAVE.
