Brute force, there is a thread on here but the search seems to be borked?
I did mine and it isn't easy, especially with a delicate lamp.

I need to take mine out and have a look as the beam colour is going weird, I suspect the reflector may be burning?
If so, I wonder if the extended warranty would cover them?

Thanks Taz, yes my search function was coming up with a error message earlier. But as I was on GPRS I thought the problem was on my end.

Even the handbook is all bloody wrong! Telling me to unscrew two screws. I foolishly unscrewed the big long one half way out and then I had a hunch it should not be removed. All on my BRAND NEW fecking MY15 xenon headlamps

Really how hard is it to produce a handbook without any errors!

I found the thread using Google search, it just use thumbs on each end of the ring and push off, I seem to remember doing this with gardening gloves on as the ends are sharp.

Yes, I will have a look in the reflector and see if I can get something in there, maybe a dental camera? I think it is all sealed up.

I ordered new lamps last year and the ring did not come with the lamp, it must be part of the whole headlamp assembly

Lamp ring pushes off quite easily

Looking at the lamp itself the central area where the arc forms is discoloured, I think this may be where the strange colours come from. The beam pattern is not a uniform white colour, these are uprated Philips HID lamps, better than the stock ones which I will look at later.

No idea, maybe something to do with self levelling?

Well today with help of this thread and Taz I have successfully managed to change my D3S xenon bulbs. It is far easier to remove the retaining ring when it is in the locked position.
Place thumbs on the discreet lugs on both sides and push away this will cause the spring clips to release.
