just back from a genuine service, few questions

MOT passed 3 weeks ago (ish)
had austin do the haldex yesterday
So service today, fixed price main £350
they claim there is play in the diff, needs investigating, Im not aware of this
and that there is slight play in rear subframe bushes, I have a clunk when going from reverse to foreward or pulling away sometimes. so this is a possible cause £550 to fix, they are having a laugh, four bushes, is it realy that hard to do
They also picked up on a track rod and with slight play, but told me i had three perished tyres at £200 each, mot man didnt think so!

so are rear bushes diy?

Re play in the diff. I would have thought Austen @ Bell may have noticed excess diff play as he removed & refitted the Haldex as part of the service.

Not seen mention of worn subframe bushes before. What is your year and mileage?

july 2013 45K, bad clunk at times so there is defo a bush or droplink playing up. Austin spotted the clunk as he drove the car into his workshop, new to him too. Ill when time permits have a real good poke around underneath.
I even wondered if it was a sticking caliper as its that type of noise as if a break has just released under load

Sticking calliper will get red hot. Easy to spot. 45k not enough miles for worn bushes. July 2013? Hardly run in! Remove all wheels & inspect (even strip) brakes (note spelling😉). Something not right or broken. Drop link will give annoying rattle over pot holes etc. Broken spring? Check the very ends of the springs, on others I have seen they break at the last coils.

BTW, it is Austen, not Austin, at Bell.

Rear half shaft splines seem to be coming up for the resident 2013 clunk, mine is a more girly clunk on moving off than heavy, had it forever. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

thanks all, after my weeks camping time to have the wheels off, I have been under but cant find anything that looks worn or loose

Worn bushes at 45k and 2013 plate Exclamation
Our old 2008 plate with 180k+ didn't have that problem, towed a van to Europe half a dozen times, spent 12months going into a quarry every day, and was off-roaded with gay abandon.

So bushes gone does seem a little early.
Could the knock be from the front transfer box / coupling? our eventually wore the splines completely through.
A front drive shaft also had worn splines - more likely on the fronts as they have power all the time, whereas the rears are usually part time.

Unless of course a previous owner has used the car for launching boats and she got a regular dose of sea water Question Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

knock is definitely the back, and irregular, as all pita problems are
Underneath is clean as a whistle no marks anywhere
Previous owner at worst had baby seats and cycle rack (one owner)
