Have one question: how did you plug DAB module through MOST into amplifier? Is LR005448 equipped with necessary plugs on both ends so this is plug and play solution? Or this rather something requiring additional cables (3-way MOST extension loop like http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Ca...-AqrBIUF6I for example

You need two long single MOST cables, and one plug for the end at the DAB module. No 3-way splitter or anything else needed.

At the end where you phone module and audio amplifier are, you just remove one of the short sections of the fiber optic loop and splice the long ones with the plug on the end in its place.

You need to open up two existing plugs on the phone module and amplifier, remove one of the sections between those two plugs, and put the new long ones in its place.

I can draw a sketch if you need. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Thank you! Appreciate you swift response. This all makes sense. Looks like MOST works in a loop with no separate physical up- and down-link connection.

One more question, if I may:

Is this still doable with 2m cable? Any hints?
Perhaps somebody could recommend any reliable source selling 2.5m cables?

Just get the Land Rover fiber optic pieces, they are cheap enough, and the right length. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Cambo,
Thanks, this is a really useful article.
I'm just about to go ahead with this, but it looks like the LR005448 MOST12 Cable Repair item is discontinued. Can you suggest an alternative?
Thanks,

A

You need a MOST cable which is about 2.5m long.

There may be places where you can get them for other vehicles like BMW, Merc, Porsche, and so on. I see some 4m long ones on ebay for £32 with male connectors on them, they are too long, but better than being too short!

Looking at the Freelander parts, I think maybe the MOST5 repair piece would just be long enough, LR005446, it's WIRE, MOST5, WIRING - HARNESS REPAIR, FROM TUNER (DAB/SDARS) TO AMPLIFIER, LESS TELEPHONE, so it's long enough to get from the DAB module to the audio amplifier...

There are longer ones too, that go from the amplifier to the head unit in the dash. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Cambo,
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
I've ordered the parts, but been informed LR005457 multi function circuit repair is obsolete, is there a possible alternative part?
Thanks again,

A

Yes I had heard that they have sold out of the coaxial cable assembly and it's probably not coming back into stock.

I have two spare's of that coaxial assembly here, i'm going to look at getting some made up, it's just a matter of getting them made at a good price. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

I am making up a quantity of replacements for the LR005457 Coax20 cable repair assemblies since Land Rover has made them obsolete now, but no way could anyone match the original price of £2 for that item, they obviously made a mistake with the pricing, it costs way more than that to make it, more like £25 and that's without the 2nd cable in it to the L-Band roof dome... 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

You mean splicing into the MOST loop? Have a look in the OEM Bluetooth Retrofit thread http://www.freel2.com/forum/topic23386.html there's some pictures showing the MOST cables and connectors.

You are extending the loop which means removing one short piece of fiber, and adding the two long pieces with a connector at the end of the long pieces.

Or the other way to go is to use a 3-way splitter, and then long cables have a male connector at each end. This costs more of course but it's definitely easier.

I'll have the coaxial cables ready in about 2-3 weeks, I've just dropped £250 on tools & parts to make these up Shocked 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers
