Cheers, it was more the real world comparison between them rather than the absolute values. As in, in reality the 2009 160 start stop won't really be any better than the 2008 160. And then 2010 onwards 150 would be slightly better in real world.

Just to add something into the discussion, my wife has a 56 reg Peugeot, only done 45k miles which just failed it's MOT on rear brakes. Took the rear drums off and both rear brake cylinders were partly seized. She only does about 3k miles a year. I guess the issue here is that the car doesn't get used enough. So be wary of old but low mileage cars, they can just as easily have problems. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I've a 2010 Facelift TD4 150 manual with stop start and I get c 32 mpg day to day -- better on long runs. Incidentally mine is also low mileage 40k and it needs a new transfer box !! work that out

I suspect that with that lower mileage on a 2007 it has been used for the school run and nipping to the shops and never really getting warmed up to running temp on a lot of it's trips.
I would be wary even if the mileage stacked up on the service records.
i remember having a company Sierra that only did 5,000 miles a year with many 2-4 mile trips and it went through exhausts (all that toxic condensation never getting blown/dryed out) and batteries annually! Basically it was knackered
However with a change of job and location I had two Mondeos, one petrol and one diesel, that both topped 130,000 in 4 years without any major replacement - just normal service and tyre costs. Both these cars were sold on and were still running fine 3 years later. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

hi, i think its hard to generalise about mileage etc

my 07 reg freelander gs had done 170k, i have had it for 5-6 years and covered approx 35k in that time.

all i have spent is routine servicing ( i do my own ) and tyres etc. I also put a new battery on it.

i work from home but i have to make occasional business trips, these are anything between 2 and 400 miles in a day.

So if I am out in my car (apart from holidays) I am doing at least 200 miles in 1 day.

The only reason I sold it was because I wanted a car with leather, well I bought a 2012 reg xs model with about 52k on the clock, full landrover service history and it looks like the haldex ecu is faulty.

I know that people knock landrovers but I have to say one thing, at 170k the seats in my last freelander were as good as new, the bolster in the front seats were still as firm as the 12 reg freelander that I have now.

I have had loads of high mileage cars 100k+ and they all felt high mileage, my last freelander still drove spot on, it never had an mot advisory and it never failed an mot. Lets hope the newer one does as well

Re your Haldex change oil & filter first, they can get gummed up.

My son who derides me for buying an auto just delivered my car to the shippers from Scotland to Mildenhall overnight, due to diversions on the A1 he ended up on some B roads, and entered one bend too fast, he expected at least a slide but it just went round the corner without effort, he also said it was the most relaxed journey he has ever driven due to the comfort and quietness, from a petrol head that considers the Caddy van is the ultimate single man's utility vehicle that is praise indeed, the only thing that stopped him buying a FL2 was the load height and width between the wheel arches, the D4 was nearer his ideal. Though we have only done 32K most of it has been long runs of 300miles plus and the OH's Micra CC for the local runs, so it is always difficult to know whether low mileage is short journeys or very few long ones occasionally, like a once year trip to the Med coast or Spain especially from a dealer. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
