Netherlands 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 Sport Manual Santorini Black
Black badge steering wheel conversion

I started sourcing black/silver badges and replacing them. The hub caps are the easiest.. Whistle

The front grille and rear door are also not too difficult, just gently work around them and lift the edge like you are removing a tire from a rim...

Forget about recovering them : they bent when removed and will not easily be bent back in shape... Rolling Eyes

Then I got round to the steeringwheel. This size is hard to come by, until I realised it was the same size as the hubcaps... Idea

I started carefully trying to remove the original from the airbag cover. I didn't know if this can just be pulled off ; never touched this section before.

I started to prise it out and discovered it is NOT stuck on with adhesive tape...

Actually it is fixed with four lips bend back behind the cover, probably from preventing to fly around when the airbag flies out...

So since I disfigured it beyond repair, I decided to first cut the lips and then try to get these out. I only succeeded with two,
the other to remained. Quite dangerous when the airbag explodes I'm afraid...

But I did manage to get a silver/black one from a hubcap, not in perfect shape, but with some touching up arond the edges with waterproof pen, it will do...

So I suggest you leave the badge and stick a gel version over it. Crying or Very sad

A safer option all together I presume... Mr. Green [ Freelander 2 TD4e MY10 Sport manual. SVR badge engineered ] SOLD

Hi - no gentle pressure with a flat blade screwdriver, gradually working all round the edge - the badge and lugs are made of soft alloy so they straighten out after a bit of jiggling at least enough to get them out.
Fitting the new badge was a bit more problematic as the lugs don't want to bend under the covering but a bit of persuasion with a very fine blade got them in sufficient to hold the badge flat.
Been on now over a year and still OK Thumbs Up No Longer the owner of a 2013MY Fuji White GS
