Hi thanks for the post I found it quite interesting as I wasn't aware of a flushing product for auto boxes and would it be possible to add a pic or two to your post. Is flushing of the auto box something that should be done by the dealer during service at a given mileage ? What did you notice after carrying out this did it make any difference ? thanks Alan. |

The general advise is to replace the gearbox fluid every 60k miles....

No filter or gasket... Just 'o' rings on level plug and cooler fitting into gearbox...

My discussions with Mackies (gearbox specialists) of Glasgow regarding servicing the Aisin gearbox is that it should be done every 40- 50k and that the gauze filter would be changed as part of their service. My position is that if there is a filter then it must have been part of the system design to remove stuff which affects the proper lubrication of the gearbox and therefore it needs to be changed. Mackies agree with this. 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto - Stornoway Grey - Hers (His, really)

I thought the gearbox had to come out to change the filter?

No, it was my mistake not Mackies. I had been talking about the ZF gearbox on my other car to them at the same time and confused the two. The gauze filter in the Aisin gearbox is backflushed. Apologies for the confusion. 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto - Stornoway Grey - Hers (His, really)

When i have booked it in and got it done in the next few weeks, I'll ask and let you know. I know that they have a piece of kit (commonly referred to on my other cars forum as the "sucky, pumpy, squirty thing") which is used in servicing ZF gear boxes. They are usually very accommodating and happy to show clients about so i'll report back. 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto - Stornoway Grey - Hers (His, really)
