Ive got a panel one fitted on my I6, as for extra BHP who really know, as for sound its i little better that stock and its got a life time warranty but there are people out there who say never use them as the oil on it can mess up the MAF meter. I6 WITH GAS CONVERSION

In the olden days induction systems were inefficient and buying a K&N filter and induction system could make things better.

But modern car manufacturers are so concerned about fuel efficiency and emissions that standard induction systems are very good. In fact Myth Busters did some trials with common cars and showed a K&N made the situation worse.

The situation is different for race engines - fuel economy is not a major concern. Jules

I couldn't agree more, I fitted a K&N panel filter to a Td5 Defender I had a while ago, it made no difference to the performance whatsoever. It's supposed to improve performance by allowing it to freely pass more air by being more porous, this however could also allow it to pass more dust particles and increase internal wear in the engine.

Taking into account the cost of the cleaning and re-oiling kit for it and the effort involved, I eventually gave up and went back to replacing the regular paper one every 15'000 miles or so.

good in their day when engine technology was not as advanced ( have one on my 30 year old Golf Gti )

but not for modern engines, and I would agree could actually cause damage and reduce performance.

I've got one on the bike. It increases air flow massively, but that was to support the ECU being switched to Race Map ( which the nice Italians preprogrammed to rid all that nasty emissions nonsence Whistle ) an extra fuel injection module and cat- less de - baffled pipes. It increases induction noise noticeably , not something you want in a car,. They are made of cotton, so you have to oil it, and you have to clean it with a solvent. If you do your own servicing , fine. If you don't , do you think your garage is going to wash, dry and oil it for you ? If they did with the service kit and labour you have just put an hours labour on the bill

In summary, KN filters for a passenger car ? Wouldn't dream of it , leave them where they belong on toys for people who won't grow up Thumbs Up 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Britpart have made a non oiled performance filter. Not bought one yet but I have swapped from K and N on my TD5 as it clogged my MAF. I have a oil free on there now much better.

Monster tune on the TD4 was well worth getting for performance and even better fuel economy as well. Big Rich
