Seat Belt Chime - normal disable method not working

Folks

Ive tried and tried to disable the horrible seatbelt warning chime using the 9 or 10 clicks method but it simply doesnt work on my FL2 SE. Any ideas?

I even rang up customer services and asked their help, only to be told its a safety feature and they couldnt tell me how to disable it. I argued that there was already a warning light which does the job and that an annoying chime isn't much use when you are using your LR in certain situations off road that demand no seat belt. It fell of deaf ears.

So all help/advice/secret codes/pins etc appreciated.

Make sure ignition is on without engine running, click belt buckle 10 times. hey presto!

You do know to press the start/stop without your foot on the clutch to turn the ignition on don't you Question (with the key fob inserted). Apologies if I'm stating the obvious but I'm only trying to help Confused

Failing that ask Dave because he can't deactivate his either Neutral At work

beanbagbaggins,

Let me know how you get on with this. As CG says I can't seem to disable mine no matter what I do. Rolling Eyes ______________________

Yep I knew how to turn on the ignition without starting the engine and can confirm its still not working. I am wondering if on certain firmware/software editions its been removed as a feature? Not sure if there is any way to ask the car what its software version is without a laptop in order to compare.

Its frustrating and I am sure someone knows the answer!

Just checking, did you realise there are two levels of 'ignition on but engine not started'? If you just tap the button, it switches on a few interior systems. If you press and hold the button for a second or two (without the clutch in obviously) it seems to switch on everything it would have if the engine was to be started - exterior lights, electric seats, air-con etc. The seatbelt hack only works with everything on.

It took me a couple of goes to notice the second mode.

Aha!

I didnt realise there were two ignition modes. It worked!!!

So for the sake of clarity and if anyone else wants to know how its done, the seat belt chime is disabled as follows:

1) Insert the key fob
2) Press and HOLD the start button without your foot on the clutch for about 2-3 seconds
3) Insert and remove the seat belt 9 times - a chime will sound on the 9th attempt
4) Seat belt warning is disabled

I've heard if you repeat the process it turns it back on. Not tried it yet on my freelander but I've turned off the chime on the D3
