Germany 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey
New recall by Landrover in Gemany

Landrover has issued a new recall to all Freely TD4 owners with regard to the possible malfunction of the electrical heating device as standard on all diesel engines for northern and eastern Europe.
You are aware that the LR-price list offers an additionional diesel-driven heating for EUR 680,00.
What Landrover does not publish neither in its Catalogue nor in its price list is, that every TD4 has an electrical heating device as standard to warm the interieur more effective , as diesel engines tend not to produce enough heat to warm-up the car.
This electr. heating unit has problems with its electronic platine as its seems to suck condense-water from the airconditioning, and which may cause fire, even when the car is parked.
About 30 Freely's are affected in Germany as on today, and this is reason enough to cause the German Federal Traffic-Agency to force LR to officially issue the recall notice. Cure is the replacement of the heater platine beginning of 2009. Meanwhile, the 100 W heater-fuse will be taken out to avoid any risk. Replacement of the heater platine will take 1,5 to 2 hours.

Had me worried for a minute too when I read 'new recall'

Just had my heater disconnected today, will have to see how the cabin warm up is affected ...

When the replacement parts become available their distribution will be phased and reminders sent to customers to match the phasing of the parts issue. Because my car was one of the first I'll be in the first phase to have replacement part fitted. At last I'll be front of the queue for something !

Well, this is what I was told today. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!

No it is fully repaired as they said they confirmed they would have the parts before our appointment. They said it would take about 4 hours; it took about 2 1/2 as my good lady waited drinking their lovely coffee.

Maybe you should see that your dealer is not pulling your Censored . Maybe they were quick to fix as our car died twice for no unexplained reason in the last six months and felt obliged to sort? (I believe sudden battery drainage was a symptom?) Freelander 2.2e HSE , Privacy, Fully debadged, 19" Chrome SHadow alloys

Just booked mine in too - they tell me the replacement part isn't available yet, so they're just pulling the heater fuse for now. Strange.... it doesn't take 4 hours to pull a fuse. Someone is not on the level. - Mike

Well, I drove the car from cold AM [2 Deg C) (I normally drive our other car during the week and haven't driven our FL for about 4 weeks). It heated up just like before i.e. after about two minutes driving plently of warm air was coming out of the vents.

Perhaps because we phoned the dealer the day we got the letter we got first dibs on the part?

Andy, according to my knowledge for certain countries Landrover supplies the Freely 2 with the diesel driven preheater as standard and not with the (cheaper) electrical version.
Swizzerland, Norway, Sweden and Russia belong to those countries with extreme temperature conditions.
So do not worry that you have not yet received a recall from LR, as the diesel driven heater is not affected.
