The logical thing to do is use a "zipper" method of merging at the point of merging.

The problem is that those who annoy everyone by charging past to the very end will eventually work their way in even if blocked by the first few cars. They aren't committing any offences either that I'm aware of.

>>Shiggsy what do you mean what sign ? Eh ? I have not said "what sign" >>If a lane is closing there are always 400, 300 , 200 & 100yrd signs signs giving you warning. I know....because I said "The are no signs that say the lane is closed, there are signs that give you a descending distance to the point the lane closes" >>Look to merg when you see the first sign , if the traffic is doing 50mph , slowing down a little to let someone in doesn't effect the flow I know...because I said " If its free flowing traffic then you obviously want to merge in early as your travelling at speed, I'm obviously not advocating driving along at 50mph up to the cones and then driving up the line of cones at 50mph like a game of Tron" But this thread is not about free flowing traffic, its about traffic that's crawling along. >>but if some chancer or some arse can't read the sign then drives up to the cones the traffic will stop I have never seen anyone try to do that at speed. (I think you need to go back and read what I have said.) Well I have quoted the head of the Institute of Advanced Motoring who was quoting the Highway Code, and I have shown Signs produced by the Highways Agency but it doesn't seems to be getting through. If you want to make up your own rules and then get annoyed when people don't follow them or because they don't queue on the road like they do in the local bank then fair enough. Its been fun but I'm not going to spend anymore time on this thread, there are wrongs being committed elsewhere that need to be righted. Indeed. Manners cost absolutely nothing Guy in the Merc is a plank, but the driver of the Renault caused a major issue that was easily avoidable |
