England 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 XS Auto Santorini Black

I had a new Worcester Bosch boiler fitted in April by a local fitter to replace a 16 year old model. He said that that is the only brand he will use

The old system had one thermostat and TRV's but no zones and it was impossible to get even heating throughout the house which is old.

I took the opportunity to fit the Honeywell EVOHOME control system, which effectively makes each individual radiator it's own controlled heating zone, all connected by WI FI plus I can control it from my iPhone. All this without touching the pipework. Although quite an expensive option, it works brilliantly

Well, the heating engineer has just left and will be sending me a quote later. I decided on keeping my existing boiler, having that converted to a pressurised system, power flush, corrosion inhibitor and service, re-site pump and 3-way diverter valve in the loft, remove cold water storage tank and fitting a new unvented tank, also in the loft. New digital controller and thermostat. Any guesses on the likely price? No prizes, just for fun! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

One more question to put out there; Thermostat, in the hall or in the living room? Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I use one of these to control the time and temperature, we move the sensor controller to the room we are in, also allows us to alter times if we come back late or early or just switch it on, not expensive either http://www.salus-tech.com/ my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Blimey. Looking at what you’ve got and the boiler you've just removed, you've gone from the Stone Age to the space age!! Mr. Green

The boiler you've just replaced is the same as the one that our current boiler replaced more than 20 years ago. Open flue job, fitted in our kitchen, venting up a chimney and we had to fit a bloody air grill in the back kitchen door to let air get in. Made the kitchen (with no radiator) bloody freezing in winter! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Hmmm. £2365 inc vat. Thinking again, as I'm changing all the upstairs rads anyway and not having a boiler change, a power flush is probably not needed - I'd have that done when and if the boiler needs changing. Also, the quote included supplying a new 3 port valve. I have valve already and that can be fitted when they move my existing valve.

The quote was from a trusted local firm and I was expecting a price of around £2,000 inc vat max. Thinking that having my new valve and not having a powerflush it should come well below that I phoned them up. They said they'll knock £70 off for the valve (I paid £95 for it, off of them early this year) and a paltry £100 for not having the powerflush. I feel like they are taking the Censored now - you couldn't get a powerflush for a hundred quid, could you?

Perhaps I'll get some other quotes now. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

in a word no. it will cost more than £100 for someone to do it for you why not hire the kit and do it your self.If you have any black sludge the system it will need cleaning as the rads will not work correctly and it will also waste energy.Just running water through the system will not clear it as it sits at the bottom of the pipes and radiators.

a fair few years ago, i paid my plumber at work £375 for a powerflush, you can hire the machine and do it yourselves for a fraction of that price,

Why not find out what you want in terms of boiler and radiators/parts and have a qualified person fit it on a day rate only? Worked out cheaper for my Bros in Law to do it that way Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Thing is, I'm replacing four of the thirty year old upstairs rads including rad valves, the (recently new) pump will be being moved, a new three port valve will be fitted in a different position, the old immersion tank from downstairs is being removed and replaced with a sealed system immersion tank in the loft as well as the header tank and virtually all the piping from the boiler (which is fitted in the loft) to the upstairs/downstairs circuits via the pump and 3 port valve. While the system is drained down I'll probably whip off the comparitively new downstairs radiators and flush them out in the garden with a hose pipe. There won't be much of the original system left to flush after that anyway! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

He said that because of the boiler I have, there is no need or benefit in having a magnetic filter until I fit a new boiler. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
