OK now i'm torn between the GS and the XS!!!

Not sure about the auto though. Been there done that, prefer manual.

So what are the towbar issues? Was thinking of the fixed bracket with twin electrics, or 13 pin if we decide to update the 'van too!

Now is probably the time to consider an SE then with a sat nav to guide you and your tin tent and a sunroof for ? oh I don't know what they are for  At work

We couldn't decide this one either. Much of the press suggest that the GS is the one to go for, and the dealer also made the same recommendation so thats what we went for.
As we wanted white there was only an auto available, and to be honest we do not regret this .... it really suits the FL2 as it is so smooth and quiet. Fuel consumption does suffer though

We went for the GS. Could not justify the extra for the XS. We tow a caravan and have just got back from 7 weeks in France and Spain. Its a great car for towing. Our caravan weighs in at 1,500 kgs and we achieved an average of just under 24 mpg whilst towing. (Ranged from 20.1 to 29.2.) Like you we reckon on 3,000 - 4,000 miles per year towing. Last year we managed to get the caravan up into the Alps in Switzerland. So far not a single problem with the Freelander.

I'm sure a GS would suit us fine. Need to have a closer look I suppose.

As Natwest stated, the XS is a good spec. However, I was going to settle for a GS. The S is too basic for me and the GS was a good compromise. There are some cracking deals out there. The XS arrived as a nice surprise as it didn't really cost any more than the GS and has a few more useful toys. I personally prefer the HSE that way you won't have to do without any of the "toys"

Joking aside I bought an auto to tow my caravan and various trailers, will be towing a minidigger later on this week so will be interesting tio see how it goes.

Towing a caravan it does with great ease, much better than the previous model.
