Considering a Freelander 2 TD4.

Thinking of an S or a GS, which do members prefer and why?

Any must have options?

It will be used for towing our caravan about 4000 miles a year. How do members find it as a towcar?

Having visited a few dealers in the Scottish central belt I have a fair idea of which ones I would deal with and which I wouldn't. Any recommendations?

IMO go GS, your getting the Terrain Response Control, which gives you more control and the cruise control will help on those towing miles, when on the motorway etc

I tow my caravan, no where near the amount you do, but find it a great tow car, virtually to the point were i can forget its there behind me

slightly outside your brief, but raid your piggy bank, sell a kidney and stretch (if you can) to an XS - philsh would agree...

I do have cruise control currently, though find I rarely use it towing.

I did wonder about a nearly new higher spec model.

In the current financial climate there could be some great deals on the go! Not looking to change till March so who knows where we will be by then!

Just a thought Sell the van upgrade to an XS or more and stay in a hotel...... proper plumbing you see

Oh and be careful which towbar you choose it seems to cause confusion for you vaners......Im sure folks on here will advise you better, I know nothing about towbars and never will At work

There maybe some great deals on the go presently but then again they arn't going to be paying a lot for trade-ins either

As for my selling the van idea , that was a flawed suggestion as you wouldn't get it's true value the current financial market

No just people whose wifes like the idea of no cooking/cleaning on a holiday and don't even get them started on the chemical loos  

no question - make sure you have an auto gearbox, especially for towing and those long deserted French roads, and beyon.

I went for the GS; felt it was worth the extra over the S for what you got, but wasn't bothered about the extra bits on the XS. Personal choice and what bits you are used to.
