Replacement wheel bearing costs

I had a front wheel bearing fail and had it replaced for £213 by my local family run indy who has looked after our cars for some years but not before I got a quote of £379 from a so called LR Indy Specialist.
So a saving of £160!
I wonder what a main LR dealer would have charged? Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

maybe your local LR Indie has done a few and knows that they can be an absolute pig.
Bearing in mind mine had been down a quarry every day for over a year, one of mine failed, our local LR Indie whipped off the hub, but the bearing wouldn't shift on a 50 tonne press.
In the end it was much quicker, and cheaper (when you include the labour cost) to replace the whole knuckle. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Some years ago I refurbed an old Massey Ferguson tractor engine and had to replace a cylinder liner. The dealer told me that "you can knock them out with a piece of wood usually" after many hours of bashing and getting nowhere I ended up going to an engineering firm with a 40 ton press and that just managed to shift it. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

So as we are now debating the merits or not of interference fit.

I seem to remember series one Landies rear half shafts had a tight little sod (collar) on it that needed a few tonnes to get off before you could change a seal. Chisel would just bounce off trying to split it. Big Cry

I have been looking for something fit to interfere with me for years, no luck yet though. Rolling with laughter FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
