Incidentally, I have reported an earlier 'grinding' sound to Caffyns which only happens when I am applying pressure to the accelerator pedal. It has been in twice for this but they have no idea what's causing it. This happens independently from the Aircon.

I have had an entirely new throttle assembly fitted but this did not cure it. I would like a second opinion from a LR service centre but this seems impossible. How can I take my car to another local dealer I didn't buy it from and request that they investigate it? I would think they'd send me back to Caffyns where I have basically been told to live with it.

I don't mistrust Caffyns, I just want a second opinion. Any ideas? Whereabouts unknown stop going to follow stream until reach civilisation stop message ends

Yes go to anyone you like..I bought mine new from hunters in Southampton and had it serviced and any warranty work (new wheels) done by James Edwards in Chester and had no problem at all.

I have just posted this in the other thread in the hope it will help some with the metallic fan style noise or accelerator paired rumblings!!

"To clarify......my veh is 6 months old, 7k miles. Whilst in for a software update the dealers thought to top up my air con. This gave a very nasty noise and the vehicle went back for a new compressor but resulted in the same noise, just quieter.

There is a bit of a knack to re gassings....from what the workshop controller told me, the compressor is emptied by vacuum and filled by the same method.

If.....the blow off valve is sticky, it leaves high pressure on one side which means new gas is forced in, not vacuumed, thus fooling any equipment into thinking the compressor is full when in fact it is running low and will cause all sorts of noises.

To solve this, they overfilled the compressor, thus activating the release/blow off, which resulted in zero pressure in the compressor. They were then able to fill with the correct amount of gas. Resulting in silent operation.

Top and bottom with mine appears to be a sticky release valve on a new compressor and the original. Hope this helps, took my dealer 2 days to find and identify." 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto

Thanks! I had the same problem ...straight to kwikfit and £49 solved the problem immediately....much better than the independent Landrover business near me who wanted money to plug in his diagnostic and then gave me the doom and gloom speech chucking a figure of £1300 into the mix!

Unfotunately, I solved for three months, with a gas refill, but now, in the while i was relaxed thinking about it, the noise is come back.
Probably, as the technician said three months ago, the problem is the ball bearing of the air compressor...

Anyone solved like that ?

MMmmm after seeing it done to mine recently I would get a specialist to do the job. He didnt just top it up he vacuumed it and then did a 15 min pressure test before filling it up.....

KF will only top up and flag a problem if the machine does. As far as LR I guess it would depend on the YTS lad knowing how to do it /synic.

I noticed this air-con noise on mine today. Regas it is then. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

Well last night I had a search online and found that ATS do an air-con service for £45.99. So this morning I called into my local branch on the way back from voting and they took it in there and then.

I went off for cooked breaky. Very nice.

Came back an hour later. All done and the noise had gone. They said that the lubricant was pretty much all gone. So I suspect that really it's lack of lubricant and dry bearings that's causing the noise. If that's doable yourself then you could save a few quid.  MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

See.... this is what I don't understand....
Being a closed circuit, without the possibility to loose the charge, if the refrigerant is not lost, or not all of it, then the oil that has a much greater viscosity, how can be lost????
I suppose that it's easy to say that to a customer in order to make him confident than to say "we don't know"...

Well I suppose that the gas is in a closed circuit but the pump gets its drive from a pulley and has some sort of gearbox. My guess would be that the oil seeps through the seal(s).
But anyway, the gas does slowly escape as well hence needing a recharge every so often. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE

The oil forms a mixture with refrigerant and together are treated/considered/circulate as a whole.
So no separate gearbox that could loose the oil.... If you loose the oil, then first you will loose ALL refrigerant.

So as the gas escapes slowly over time so it will take the lubricant with it. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE
