Well mine has started making a lot of noise when the air con is on. May I ask what type of oil and how is it injected? |

its called PAG compressor oil. it can either be injected by a regassing machine, or if the system has no gas you can disconnect one of the pipes and pour it in. |

If you leave the aircon turned off for long periods of time, the seals will dry out through lack of lubricant and will eventually start leaking, this is why you have to have a recharge.

Thanks mate. Mine is 8 years old with 260k kms on the clock and I haven't touched under the bonnet so I can't complain too much. I got an A/C service today, recharge and oil, the noise seems to have gone away. Cheers. |

Haha! I use mine more in the winter than in the summer as it keeps everything demisted. Summer? What summer? MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

I've had this Freelander for 18 months - 2009/10 XS-e with 4 previous owners, 70k. Shortly after buying it I had a noise from the RHS of the engine from driver's seat - local garage no clue, but I noticed it came & went when I engaged the air con so it must be the compressor. Took it to local LR dealer - first told no problem, then when I held their hand and showed them agreed it was the air con compressor, despite cold air from the vents.

It's not a "problem" just with the Freelander. Any car's aircon will eventually need a re gas. £120!! ATS do it for £48. MY13 Santorini Black SD4 HSE |

Hi hope someone can help I have a FL2 HSE 07 plate Auto and unfortunately due to a burnt out valve I have had to replace the engine so it has been standing for approx 8 weeks I have had it back for 2 weeks and today when I put the blower on the windscreen the fan sounded like metal on metal. It sounded like the noise was from the behind the fan switch? The aircon was off and i just put the heater on to defog the windscreen and it sounds like a broken fan ? Does anyone know if there is a heater fan behind the fan switch or is it the aircon fan ? Thanks |

My air con wasn’t working When I bought the vehicle, I got it regassed after a very sticky summer, all was well for a while then all of a sudden I notice this noise. I’ve been thinking that because it wasn’t gassed for a while I may be looking at a new compressor or something. Guess I’ll take it for a re-gas and see if it silences the noise. I’m still getting ice cold air (and no it’s not just because I’m on yorkshire) so surely everything is working ? |

Sometimes some of the flaps that divert the air to the various outlets stick in a position which causes a hissing noise. Try switching between normal and recirculating several times, that might free the flaps, it did on mine.
