Compensation offered for front diff gone, but is it worth it

FL2 2013 so just out of warrenty with 40K on the clock... front diff output bearing gone... got a quote from Farnells at £2K to replace... ended up getting Stonelake to do it for £1K with a brand new diff.....
anyway... complained to LR customer services and they have offered me £600 towards an extended warranty (after a lot of agro that is)...
so i have to sort it out with a dealer and they chose Farnell.. guy rings me up and says the warrenty is £640 for the non-recovery one... ok, so I have to put £40 to... and then goes on to tell me they have to inspect my car first... and that will cost at least £190!... so I ask if I can stay with the car whilst its inspected... yes.. it only takes an hours or so!!.. what are they on (obviously £190 an hour!)... so I ask what happens if they find an issue... and I'm told this has to be put right before the warrenty can start at full cost!.. bearing in mind, this company told me my rear pads were 80% worn 4 weeks after having new ones fitted.. and when I told them this, they said 'well, we only have a quick look!!!'
how can I trust these people?.. what to do... its bad enough having the diff go at 40K... but now they want XXX to put an extended warrenty in place even with £600 contribution Big Cry

Oh dear. They're my dealer and who I bought the car from. Mines nearly 3 years old so fingers crossed. I'm wondering if it's worth taking out extended warranty regardless at its 3rd service.

Bradford.... they have been good over the years as I've had 6 or 7 LR's now... but they have got daft of late ... more bothered about meeting you in the car park and offering you endless drink instead of offering a good value, worthwhile service... can't be doing with all that faff!!....

I knew extended warrenties were around £600... but didn't know they had to inspect and blead you dry before they accept you for one??

Mines Leeds and they've been good so far. They've done all the servicing etc so if I get extended warranty it should be plain sailing??? We'll see

After my family's experiences I wouldn't consider owning an FL2 without an extended warranty. They are nice cars but far too fragile. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

When I bought my extended warranty from Duckworth's there was no cost for the inspection (which it passed). They do get commission on the warranty sale you know!

Not sure about the commission bit and the inspection is only necessary if it hasn't recently been serviced at a dealer. When I was last at the LR dealers for a service I asked if there was any benefit for them arranging another year's extended warranty as I had just received the paperwork, they said no and best thing is just organise it yourself online. I bought the full extended plus LR assist £945 which I pay in 10 monthly installments. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

unfortunate but just another example of a dealer determined to extort money from a customer no matter what.

they cannot be trusted and you have evidence of that fact.

you don't even trust them to inspect your car without being present !!

find another dealer, although most of them are similar.

Our cars are same period and similar miles. MY 2013 42.000

Defo not doing an extended warranty but will be changing all the drive train oils soon. Could be worth keeping a running total for a couple of years or so to compare. Your a diff up against my rear door lock so far plus a Haldex service in my preventative box. Cool FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Whatever you do, take out the extended warranty. It's a land rover. Mine was about to run out and i ummed and arred, but i paid and thought better safe than sorry. six weeks ago the dreaded transmission fault traction reduced message flashed up. I then got it to Grange land rover in welwyn, who said it was a pump [Haldex]. They will need it for three to four days. i have just got off the phone with them saying it's the Haldex pump and they need permission from the warranty people to get the part and start the repair. Take out the extended warranty.

Not sure of your mileage and year but I had my Haldex serviced at 3 years instead of taking out warranties. Not a job that should be more than a few hours not days. Hope they gave you a car. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I did not get a car as they said they could get me in quicker. But to be honest Yorkie, i think you have more chance of riding a unicorn than riding a courtesy car.
