seat cover removal and wash (not replace)

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere and I haven't been able to find it...

Has anyone ever put the original factory fitted seat covers (cloth) through the washing machine?!

I made the mistake of not using seat covers for the last 4 years of ownership and the seats are looking rather grubby.

Other posts on here show that it is a simple job to remove the seat bases and remove the covers (but all have gone on to fit new covers). My covers are not worn, but two kids and an active lifestyle have left them looking like they need a wash!

I appreciate I could scrub them whilst in situ, but given how simple it is to remove the seat bases it will probably be easier to remove them and put them in the wash.

I am concerned however that they could disintegrate in the washing machine. If anybody has any experience, please share.

Alternatively, can anyone recommend a good product that I could use to clean them up without removing from the car?

Thanks Black, S, TD4, Manual.

United Kingdom

could always take them off and use a carpet cleaner with a upholstery nozzle -that way there is no risk of washing machine damage

As above , a carpet/upholstery vacuum with some quality shampoo will do the trick .
