I've driven in Australia - it takes a few seconds for the aircon to cool the car down. You are raising a non-existent problem. Anyway, having the platform on top of the car will deflect the worst of the sun and allow a cooling breeze above the roof - a new take on the Land Rover "safari roof" of fond memory. As far as the car heating up. If you can't stop the sun hitting the glass anything on the inside of the glass is of not much help. At home I have blinds which reflect much more than you are allowed on a car & they are reflective and can still see through them. If I need to keep the heat out I close layers of curtains which does a reasonably good job. I have a few windscreen sun shades which work quite well.

I've not even used my AC this year. In my case heated wheel is used all year round practically, that's not a joke! I opted for Fuji White to play hide and seek in the winter MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior
