guys -- I might have a similar problem , 07 FL2 , done 94,000 miles and wondering if its time for the haldex to be serviced. I,ve asked at my local garage but they have no clue and didn't seem interested and could,nt advise me ..

Anyway are there any symptoms to look out for that indicate the Haldex may need servicing etc , what does it actually do..

I have noticed oil/lube running down my left rear arch , does smell like diff oil ..
only had the car for 3,000 miles and as just started to do it this week after a couple of runs of around 30 miles down the A46 at normal speeds upto 70mph.....

could this be related to the above or diff

its near a town called Bewdley in West Midlands. M1/M42/M5 North/ A38 towards Kidderminster. (its near where I grew up and family still live down there, im not just a sad route spotter )

Cost would/could differ as I had got hold of a Haldex 4 filter using a Volvo part number and oil to do it myself then threw the towel in due to my ramps collapsing.

Still waiting for the ramps saga to be sorted out but if nothing happens soon it's name and shame time.  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years
FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current

this job should be done as part of a dealer service and would prevent the Haldex problems.

That is where the breather for the diff and haldex exit. It shouldn't really be blowing out. Have you got mismatched front and rear tyres??? Or could be haldex dragging and heating up the diff. Or it's been over filled. www.bellengineering.co.uk

I,ve not touched the tyres , I checked pressure 30 all round . all the same make , and tread is even on all .

no not touched the rear diff as it was all supposed to be serviced 3,000 miles ago when I bought it , not sure what was done though ... cars done 94,000 miles its been running great until now this week notice the oil leaking out from the left rear mud flap.. then stopped then did it again a few times after 30 mile commute to work .

any ideas what could cause the pressure build up , everything sounds ok while driving .

if it was the heldex starting to play up are there any symptoms to look out for.

don't wait for any symptoms of Haldex problems, it'll be too late by then. This is preventative stuff which arguably should be part of the official service schedule.

Would definitely support the preventative approach as the haldex is an expensive bit of kit to replace.

If you are getting errors (hdc traction reduced) on the dash then the haldex is being disabled, either through safety modes or failure of an electrical part. You then need to look into the codes itself, there are several ranging from communication lose with unit , motor failure, low pressure/slipping etc.


If you are getting a juddering at low speed manoeuvres this won't usually be picked up by the fault finding on the ecu, at this stage you will most likely need an overhaul of the haldex.

Keep fluid at the correct level, keep filters clean and replace fluid regularly and most problems can be avoided www.bellengineering.co.uk

Not quite the same as gearboxes and diffs have gears that mesh so wear should be quite low, Haldex uses clutches that engage and disengage every time you pull away so there will be a lot more wear.

Today I was quoted £200 + VAT for a Haldex service from my local independent LR garage.

Should this thread be merged with the Haldex Service one?
