Hi all, have been having the rattling sound made by the air intake support bracket coming loose for the last couple of days. I've been waiting for the weekend to re-tighten. Stopped today. Looked under bonnet. Bracket gone. Stud on engine cover still there but no bracket.

Probably somewhere on the A61 now. I've checked to see it has not left a hole in the intake pipe and is okay.

Question is how important is it? It did not have a nut on it for the first year I had the car. I fitted one after reading about the rattle on this forum.

Any ideas?

I didn't understood which bracket you missed

Hi. It's the plastic bracket that joins the air intake pipe to the stud on the back of the engine cover. It has fallen off at some time in the last week or so. Just snapped off I guess.

Best way to view that is if Land Rover did not fit it to that series of engines they would have saved X pounds per car. So as they did fit it its there for a reason and the sooner you rig it up again the less stress will be place on another part of the cars systems that will cost you X pounds several times over if they then fail.

The converse of this though is that Land Rover tells customers things like the Haldex will go 150,000 miles before needing servicing attention but when they then fail they make even more money  FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Thanks for reply. I guess it might allow the pipe to move relative to the fixed tube that runs down to the turbo inlet.

I'll try to rig something up to replace it. The original was just heat welded on from what I can see. Looks like an addition so may have been put there to stop some issues with vibration.
