Bow down my apologises... before adding that link ...I should have try to read couple of pages in the front of this one, where I stopped (in April I decided to add 2SO in the tank of my car..) reading and being convinced of its benefit. Sorry. Embarassed

Another thing that confuses me slightly about that report...in both wear tests the TSO mix came out slightly better than standard diesel, as it did in the cetane improvement. However in all of these improvement areas the TSO added results have banding on them indicating 'The test method has an uncertainty band indicated by the error bars on the graph'

In percentage terms I am guessing that the improvements were in the order of 3-10% with the only downside being the zinc content.

Since it is possible to buy zinc free TSO, albeit at a substantially higher price than normal TSO, maybe that's the way to go as long as it's not prohibitive cost wise?

Why Two-Stroke Oil?

Although 2-stroke oil is obviously designed to be combusted, why not use ANY basic mineral oil? (for non DPF engines) I am thinking of cheap standard car engine oil for instance. Just a thought so asking & looking for opinions. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Not sure about the spec side but I would have thought burning engine oil would create black smoke? Whereas tso burns cleaner?

Blue smoke for engine oil Rich. Black for diesel.

In the quantities added, there is unlikely to be much, if any smoke. If you remember the old 2-stroke motors in mopeds, mowers etc, there used to be plenty of blue smoke as the mix was quite rich. We are putting in only 200 ml or so per tankful. There is no blue smoke with mineral 2SO , so unlikely to be with basic mineral oil which may just have some additives to achieve 15/50 or 20/50 viscosities. 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Funnily enough, Mr P, when I was up @ "Sleaford College" yesterday (the one with the lighthouse), that very product was mentioned as being popular among some circles! Shocked Nothing could be further from my mind (of course). I found a spare 5L container of Duckhams Hypergrade left over from the days when I had an MGB and cannot bear to throw it away until it is empty! newbie - how do I know if my FL2 has a DPF??

Hi,

I think the general advice seems to be not to worry about DPFs, but I may be a bit confused. Also, how do I know whether or not my 2009 TD4-E has a DPF??

Thanks, Tom.

YF is from Germany, all FL2 sold in Germany were fitted with DPF.

After comparing prices a diesel additive will be cheaper to use then TSO, the additives like Liqui Moly Speed Diesel
claim to do exactly what YF and others claims TSO is doing.
So is there anyone here that compared (by using) betwen the two?

are you sure it's cheaper? I didn't found the LM SpeedDiesel less than 14/17 €/liter and I use 8€/liter "FC" TSO.

1 liter of TSO it's enough for 4 full diesel tank..how much LiquiMoly you've to put in a tank?

I use TSO from liqui Moly (1052), 1 liter should fit 3 tanks (350ml each fil).
the speed diesel 1 liter should be good for 400 liters.
