I would disagree, 40 years ago Fort William was a thriving tourist venue and a great place to stay for a few nights.

Started travelling through Fort Bill in 1976 it wasn't great then, though trying hard it was a dump, it hasn't got any better, infact worse, and they've given up trying. Just comparing now with 40 years ago didn't make it thriving, there was nothing there to make it thriving, it just seemed better. Most can now avoid it due to the by pass built in the late 70's on the loch side which didn't help the town but helped the motorist. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

All this talk of Fort Bill reminds of the time we passed through in an open top Series one Landy in 1969 on a Scottish Grand Camping Tour from Yorkshire. We topped up with oil whilst there, and purchased another 5 gallons.
