You're best to get the AA to do an inspection if you don't feel you can make the decision yourself. Either way it is money well spent.

I'd love too but I don't have 300 to just have disposable if completely honest.
AA for 4x4 is 300 in my area

NPINKS made a very valid point - check the fuse box for internal mud, if its just dust, then like most people reckon, its just a dirty farm car, and at that price, if this was my budget I would buy it double quick, add 18" wheel, tint rear windows, spend a day taking out all the seats and carpet for a full clean.
Any mud outside, underneath or on the engine is where it belongs, and makes for a happy landrover, not a sad school run minibus
Oh, buy a warranty, not just because its muddy, used LR's need one, unless you have deep pockets, and are happy with the risk

I never bother with inspections, if it starts and drives ok - trust your gut then the ready mechanical s are ok.
Recent MOT ensures it is safe, and nothing dangerous is on the way out, the engine is bullet proof, the FL2's weaker pointsis its transmission - so whining from mid/rear when driving is a nono ( ignore tyre noise), and clunking from rear when selecting gears or maneuvering at ful lock is a nono ( dif issues which I have had before).
Oh, FL2's prefer, and do dirve better IMHO with a matching tyre set

I think I mentioned earlier the nsr tyre was IMO illegal and how could all the brake pipes etc be checked for corrosion as these were unrecognisable.
It sounds too good to be true...

Am I correct in thinking I can upgrade part of the steering wheel to add audio controls and cruise control?
How easy is it to fit front and rear sensors for the wife..... Obviously Whistle

Thanks again

Everyone has been very welcoming i was expecting to get flamed

wouldnt worry about brake pipes, they are part of a MOT, besides they do last a long time, though the flexible hoses that run from the calipers are prone to damage wear off road, again part of a MOT, and a DIY change for some

Use the tyres, and MUD to discount the price and get a warranty
remember good2nd hand tyres are readily available on ebay and elsewhere for next to no money, so you should be able to match brand and tread depth easily. MOst places charge 10-15 to fit a tyre u supply ( or ask the car dealer to fit it for free if he wont replace it!)

have them steam clean the exterior to enable an examination

The obviously know the car is not top knotch condition wise due tot he mud and dust everywhere, but a serious garage would atleast do this to enable you to have a better look, even if they say no, how is a AA inspection going to inspect it in that condition underneith

Still worth a punt.... if your buying cash, maybe pay for it on a credit card, or atleast some of it to get protection

as for discounts, its a car dealership, they'll be offended if you didn't try squeeze something out of them, head for a grand off, free warranty and it cleaning inside and out Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Just be cheeky, Worst they can say is no.

I would start at maybe 8k for it, citing the under body cleaning required, tyres (it wouldn't have passed MOT if any of the tyres were illegal, and I would say a punctured tyre was replaced with an used one hence the uneven tread wear across the axle) but to be honest if you can get a decent warranty that will cover anything you find underneath once its jetwashed off.

FL2 are generally no more expensive to run/maintain than an ordinary car (discounting the MPG differences) so standard wear, tear and maintenance items are average cost to replace. Its only when things like the rear diff or haldex (4x4 wizardry) go wrong that it becomes expensive but if you cant hear any whines, groans or grumbles from underneath then they should be ok.

I notice that it has the terrain response dial in the middle even though its the S model, turn this to all positions and make sure you get the relevant warning on the dash display, also press the DSC and HDC buttons next the terrain response dial and make sure you get the relevant lights up on the dash. The HDC will flash green if your in the wrong gear (only works in 1st/2nd and reverse when it will be solid green), if it goes orange/red then there is a fault so walk away.

My hunch is it will cost you a lot down the line.

You need to buy a car that had this type of life at an auction as they will have done to get the deal of deals. Margin on this for the seller will be a lot and you are the one really taking the risk and making them that nice profit.

Cant see how a car that is sold into places with deserts and dirt roads could get so much dust past all the doors seals and air con filters into the cab in UK. The whole point of the modern air con system is the muck stays on the outside. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

i would guess the interior dust is due to workers wearing dirty clothes, driving with windows down in dirty/dusty conditions, not by bypassing the seals and filters Idea Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
