I've had 6 LRs with DPF, I'm lucky if I do 6,000mls a year. Never had a problem, an occasional long run just to keep everything nice and clean. My current Disco uses AdBlue also, again no problems so far. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200 |

My mechanic told me not to get diesel as I do mostly short trips, only 5400 km on the clock, but unfortunately you don't have a petrol option. He said to me DPF are a problem with only short trips. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

I suppose it's one more thing to go wrong, on mine the DPF hasn't been a problem but I have had a DPF exhaust gas temp sensor fail twice and a cracked DPF pressure pipe (whatever that is). 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Three Fl2's so far and three with DPF's, not one problem associated with the DPF. I took early retirement within that period whereas I use to do a 11 mile each way trip, most days now its a few miles to where I walk the dog with a couple of extremely long trips towing. Manufacturers software written for the car and its DPF makes a great difference, and LR's is good.

A couple of friends had DPF equipped Citroen DS3's; one did low mileage / short journeys, the other was the complete opposite. Both had disasterously unreliable DPF's. Meanwhile I've never had any problems with DPF's on all three of my FL2, or my D4, except for one month in the D4 when, instead of doing 3,000 miles a month, it dropped to less than 800, with lots of short journeys. That's the only time I've had the DPF light come on. Since I've gone back to normal mileage it's been fine.

Just repeating what others have already said. Doing the same journey's as yourself, only 6-8K each year for last 9 years and on 3rd vehicle with DPF and no problems to date. No longer embarrassed by the black ploom of smoke when I floor it

Well the balance of evidence seems to point at not worrying about the DPF too much. All I need to do now is persuade the wife that it's worth spending another £10k so I have a slightly different radio display. Can't see any problems looming there... |

There was issues with FL2 and DPF in Germany in the early years, this was solved with a new software update.
