im not convinced that main dealers do a proper service, but mine has a full LR history up to now so decided to maintain the stamps.
my local indy would have done the service for about the same price, with equal or better parts but would have done things like grease the door hinges and other such stuff on top of the schedule. Also they would have read and cleared the codes which LR didn't do unless I paid them extra.

I am facing the same situation. Just bought a 2007 FL2 with full LR dealer service history. I have used a good local independent LR specialist previously on my Discovery 2, who quoted £285 for an interim service on the FL2 – compared to £275 on the fixed price servicing deal at the local dealership (Hunters). For the sake of another LR stamp in the book, I've decided to go with the main dealership on this occasion.

That said, when I contacted the LR dealership that has done the servicing for the last three years I discovered that they have never changed the brake fluid (should be done every three years I believe) so IMHO using a dealer is no guarantee that the car has been treated any better.

Mine has just been serviced at Hunters in Garstang, I can't fault them, always done what was asked, staff are great and I am happy with the costs. £275 for service, plus brake fluid change which was about £45.
Gearbox updated, car washed n vacced and a new DS loan car for the day.

I also enquired about tyres as I needed 4, Hunters will price match within 10 miles of the dealership, there is a Kwikfit within reach in my case, so 4 Pirelli Scorpion Verde all season fitted at he same time for £116 each.

Come August when the warranty is up, I will most likely take an extended warranty and continue to use them, I also looked back at the dash cam footage and saw what was done, the road test was also conducted within legal limits and judging by the conversation the mechanic had with his colleague it is safe to assume they were unawre of the recording Laughing

thumbs up to Hunters from me Thumbs Up

Should there be some way of actually knowing what they have done on a service over and above the service book list. What I mean is that when I posted on here about that age old Haldex/rear diff issue I know some of your replies were that there had been a computer reprogramme that was done at a service but how do yopu know that things like that have been done?

Taz,
Re Hunters, I assume this was an ‘A’ Service for £275? Was this a special deal as I’ve been quoted nearly £100 more?
Mines booked in at Kentdale (Kendal) in early May for a year 3 ‘A’ service and first MOT. I was quoted £332 for the service (I imagine the fluid change is extra to that). Standard price quoted for MOT (£54.85).
If I could get a cost effective device for resetting the Service / Oil Service indicators I’d do it myself.
All the best,

The 3+ scheme is a Land Rover UK backed service scheme for all LR over 3 years old, Most (but not all) LR dealers are running the scheme to try and attract owners of older vehicles away from indy servicing. However after my recent LR service im not convinced they did as good a job as my local trusted indy.

LR UK pay the dealer the difference between the 3+ cost and the standard cost apparently. Best to check on the dealers website directly to see if they are running the scheme.

Prices are definitely £275 for 'A' service and £350 for 'B' service

Hi Chris

Yes is was an 'A' service, I rang ahead to check and was quoted that figure, they also suggested the brake fluid swap which I accepted.

I know you haven't had the best service at Hunters, I have had nothing but praise for them, although, someone did let it slip last time that they knew of this forum and my connection to it, I was then given a very nice Land Rover pen, on sale at £25 Laughing Not that I am biased in any way.

I was informed that the brake fluid change was now 2years, I queried the fluid at the 3 year A service as it was on the service sheet for a change, if it was included, the dealership had the service history, but no mention of the change and then wanted over £50 for the change if I wanted it. Went to my indie, can't be bothered with amateurs. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever.

I use a local garage who looks after all their customers no matter what vehicle. My vehicle is over 8 years old so would not contemplate using a main dealer unless i had to. I supply all genuine service items or parts which i purchase from the internet at the cheapest price i can get. I know when they do a service or any work its done properly.

How do you know?

Are they 'doing a service' or just fitting parts you denied them a small profit on?

Are the 'genuine' items actually 'genuine' or fakes?

For those interested ... here is the pen Laughing

Nice pen.
To add to the brake fluid change discussion, I have always been told that the fluid is checked and the change is only done "if necessary". the fluid change never seems to be included in the service price. This is in spite of the fluid change being included on the service sheet. I don't think I have ever (40+ years) had my brake fluid changed, except when doing work on the brakes.
No, that's not 40+ years with the same car, but that said, some of mine have gone to 10 years old without the change. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
