So at the removal/fitting point does that have some sort of paper gasket seal, O ring or just gasket glue like Hylomar you would need to do the job, apart from the workshop of course at my age ? Thanks in anticipation. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years FL2 MY13 TD4 GS Current |

Later models cant be done without removal of the Haldex I believe Its a type 4 but type 3 can be done in situ, happy for someone to say otherwise. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

I wonder if they bother thats the thing and could be why lots of diffs start to fail early? Filled for life oftens means forget it and as for life, well thats until it breaks? |

There is a rubber oring between the haldex and diff, its usually reusable, although i always replace it when i change them for the sake of a couple £££. The filter comes with a new casting and the orings etc so thats not an issue.

The only thing i can see from the design of the diff (the diff design between manufacturers is different) is that maybe it is to ensure there is enough capacity in the reservoir/system for when the piston is fully retracted and the accumulator is closed. www.bellengineering.co.uk

Decided it was time to get the Haldex serviced. Car has done 68.000 (07), I have owned it for a year and could find no paperwork relating to Haldex work. After asking local garages if they would service the unit I was left un confident. So decided to go to Bell Engineering, Their service was second to none and very accommodating. It turns out my generation 3 unit has already been swapped for a generation 4. I was shown the filthy filter and the gauze to the pump was covered in gunk! Could have got very expensive if not serviced. I therefore thoroughly recommend the services of Bell Engineering and their expertise. Happy motoring all. |

Mine was the same all gunked up inside when I serviced mine over a year ago. When I asked the Dealer they said it didn't need doing until 10 yrs or 150,000 miles the same as the Cam belt. Landrover needs to stop over exaggerating the service intervals before it costs there owners a lot of money unless that there Deliberate intention. |

With all the chatter about the Haldex I am thinking of only at 3 years and 40,000 miles having this done.

This the servicekit for a Haldex 4. To do the job you need to remove the Haldex from the diff and the oil must be refilled in the correct manner or you will have problems. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Freel...SwFGNWSmso |

The price for the service kit looks a bit steep. The oil costs £15.60 a litre from Volvo and a series 3 Haldex filter came in at €39 from haldexparts.com. |

I had a new haldex pump fitted last year. Just looking at the invoice and it says 2 units of oil at £20 per unit. 40 quid plus vat. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
