United Kingdom 2010 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Trouble is, we have about 7 different diesel models to compare: TD4 160 manual & auto; TD4 150 manual & auto; SD4 auto plus the stop/start TD4 manual and 2WD TD4 (TD4e?) manual. Mine, a TD4 160 Auto is, I believe, the least economical and also most expensive to tax Rolling Eyes (not counting the petrol i6)

Bob, the TD4.E is the 4wd, just has stop start. The eD4 is the 2wd version Thumbs Up
To be honest, I've had my TD4.E for about 6 months now and haven't had the stop start work once Rolling Eyes

My point was, we have potentially some seven different fuel consumption patterns - what with the range of uses these vehicles are put to, anything from the late teens to the low fifties can be experienced, dependent upon model. England 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Orkney Grey

OK, so just filled up and finally able to work out my mpg. Using the liters to fill (59.75) and miles covered (329) method It works out at 25.03mpg. The Freelander 2 computer was remarkably accurate in that it was showing an average of 25.2mpg.

One thing I have noticed about my average readout compared to other cars I have owned is how quickly the average changes when you go from motorway driving to A road driving, for example.
On previous cars if I do 100 miles of motorway driving and then go off motorway, the average falls quite slowly but with the Freelander it appears to drop quite quickly and steady out a lot sooner. LR Freelander 2 2014 metropolis SD4 auto in Loire Blue.

Yes I noticed that, most of my miles have been short journey's however on one longer return journey doing some motorway driving it went up considerably before dropping again.

Well I did buy my FL2 for its economy, but that is all relative as I had a D2 TD5 which did about 30mpg, and was getting costly on repairs as well as fuel so 38-40 solo is quite good. FL2 11 S Black 😂

RedMike, I've often wondered about that, it seems that the average is a bit of what you did achieve and a lot more of what you are actually doing. I was puzzled about the variation and have found when the mpg readout is low at the end of a tankful the real top to top consumption has been better than the readout, just as a single long M/way drive the actual is worse than the readout. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

You can change fuelly to display UK mpg with settings/unit display
That said the code for my sig says 29.4mpg but in fuelly it shows

The 35.3 overall includes a lot of towing at about 25mpg - not much better than Disco2 TD5 but maybe faster! FL2 11 S Black 😂

I reset mine at each fill-up normally about 500miles.
It then goes to very poor mpg and takes 50-100miles to get to its normal optimism.
Always 2mpg but up to 5mpg eg indicates 42 actual 37mpg. Never ever get real worse than shown

Just done my first brim to brim fill up.

Total miles 370 of which 120 were M4 cruising, 70 were fast dual carriage way, 120 out of town A roads & 60 miles of urban driving = 33mpg LR Freelander 2 2014 metropolis SD4 auto in Loire Blue.

Hi,

Had a manual TD4 and was getting about 30 on town journeys and 39 MPG on long runs (didn't seem to matter if A, B or motorway).

Changed to a SD4 auto and on collection was getting 16 MPG and 23 MPG on runs. Finally got them to service it and got 44 MPG on a long run up M1 mostly at 50 mph (road works). Never done this since, same run three times since as only achieved 35 MPG with 25 MPG on a 15 mile trip to work.

Does anyone know what are best tyres and pressures to achieve better results and if using command shift can improve MPG?

Hi, I've only had mine for a less than a week, but have done 200 miles of trundelling around enjoying getting used to the car. Abour 2/3 urban, 1/3 country pootling and gentle motorways. Very pleased to see 37mpg (from litres at the pump and miles on the clock) overall.

I haven't been able to check the computer against reality yet, but apart from one country roads trundle from Sheffield to Castleton and back, which indicated 42 mpg, 35-38 is mostly what the OBC has shown, so I was pleasantly surprised to see a real 37mpg overall. Landrover Freelander 2, 2.2TD4-E manual XS. New to me at 113k miles, after 1 careful owner.
