I'm not a techy so I could have read it wrong! My laptop is second hand so I don't have back up disks etc. When I was reading yesterday about re-installing Windows I just read that Windows 10 was different to other Windows OS with the product activation keys. If anyone is interested there is a massive Win10 update going out at the moment. Yesterday one of my PCs started doing an update and it took about 3 hours, it was almost like a reinstall with multiple restarts and a % counter that slowly goes around. The messages that come up are similar to when you install win 10 for the first time. At the end of it I was on version 1511.

I have been on 1511 for some time - had at least two cumulative updates for it since. Maybe your machine missed some and has just noticed - or maybe there was a lot of web traffic and it was just slow to download the latest. Large number of updates appeared together today, so my machines took a while to download them, but they installed relatively quickly (about half an hour). Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Well my wife's laptop is still going and I think it's nearly there now, the messages are things like "we have updated your PC, Just changing a few things etc" - just like when you install a new operating system. I am usually keen to keep up with updates so I don't think I have missed many recently. I rebuild quite a few systems and this is something quite different, almost like a reinstallation of Win 10 and I have done 2 of those in the last couple of week on fresh hard drives.

All I can say is, mine hasn't done anything like that for a while. I seem to remember a similar big update back last month some time. Presumably MS don't send them all out at once, or their site would be swamped. You do seem to have got it late though. Alternatively MS have looked into your computer (I understand they can do that now?), noticed something not right, and decided to reinstall the lot! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

System update yesterday forced Outlook to open in Safe Mode only....known problem with the update which MS has 'recalled' apparently, but didn't stop it deploying and being a pain!

Decided to go for the 10 download at the weekend, I presume I will need to reinstall all software, printers, etc., etc., etc.? |

I have had a couple of instances on my wife's HP laptop recently where the sound has stopped working every few weeks necessitating the reinstallation of realtek drivers. A search on Google shows that there seems to be some issue where a Win10 update doesn't believe that certain drivers are compatible and so zaps them. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

My farm software supplier tells me not to move to 10 yet, they arenot confident it will work 100% with their software, Bit shoddy I think, software suppliers must of got so pre release copies of 10 to work with surely? At work

My agronomist son has had a few problems with some of his clients on Win10 He send his recommendations as pdf files which by default get picked up by Microsoft's Edge browser with sometime strange results. He has asked everyone to load the adobe reader and make it the default. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The problem is that there are that many businesses out there using windows of various releases (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10) and nearly all of these businesses have their own bespoke systems that they use for accounting, fault ticketing, design drawings etc etc. that Microsoft couldn't possibly keep up. So its up to the businesses own in house IT departments to source or write their compatible codes to allow the bespoke systems to work with windows 10, its not a quick process. When I worked at Ericsson and they rolled over from XP Professional to Vista/7 it took about 10 months for them to get every bit of software compatible, and then several months afterwards to iron out bugs. |

I went for Windows 10 a couple of months back, killed my laptop. Had to do a complete reformat and reload everything back to Windows 7. Took me days to upload all the updates, lost loads of stuff. My advice, stay away! Having said that, about 50% of ppl I have spoken to about this have had trouble free upgrades. |

All 3 of our PCs now have w10 on. Two have played up a bit, one fixed itself with a routine update, the other I did a system restore. The issue has been some of the MS Apps, like, photos, store, movies, all stop working..they open then immediately close. Lots of people have had this issue and there isn't a clear fix that I can see |

Since I updated to windows 10 my hp pc showed a hard disk f4 error on start up. I thought great hard drive failing but no what I found was the hp support software was causing this as I apparently voided the warranty upgrading
