Microsoft say that wifi sense doesn't allow access to files but anyone who knows much about IT knows that once access is gained someone will always develop a tool to get in further which may make files and other information available. The other thing to remember is that the bill payer is responsible for anything downloaded on their broadband. So, I for one have people in my contacts list that are not friends and I wouldn't want them accessing my broadband, downloading anything that they might want to. Wifi sense doesn't give the granularity to be able to pick and choose who gets access, it's all or none. I'll be going for none on my main wifi and guest access given when appropriate.

I agree that there are some licence issues that have crept in with Win10. I made sure that I didn't go for the "express" option on installation as it basically gives MS access to everything on your PC and that goes for "one drive" too. Best to stick to earlier versions of Office (who needs all the new features anyway?). I am on outlook 2007 and Office 2010.
As for anti virus you don't need to buy Norton or Mcaffee. Since Win7 Microsoft have had their own anti virus MSE (microsoft security environment) which was a free download in win7 and built in by default thereafter. There are regular anti virus updates and I have had it in use on about a dozen PCs with no issues. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

MSE is Microsoft Security Essentials. It was regarded as quite good when initially released but it lost its Test Certification in 2012 due to declining protection and repair scores.

MSE or Defender as it's now called has been in use on a number of PCs at home/relatives and also at work where we were initially advised to use it by one of our software suppliers after program compatibility issues with the likes of AVG and Norton. I understand that Defender is regarded as OK if you keep it up to date and install all of the numerous updates. I also use Spybot on occasions when there is a suspicion of malware infection but I rarely get problems but perhaps it depends on what websites you are looking at and how often you succumb to the likes of the Java updates scam. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Java updates are problem in that some of them have been hijacked with malware and people just click on them as they are so used to seeing them. Even the kosher ones load toolbars and unwanted software unless you untick the box. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Worth knowing - thanks! Haven't seen any recently: maybe Windows 10 has a way of dealing with them. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

What a dog

Upgraded from 7 to Windows 10 - all went very smoothly. I don't like Windows 8 at all - have it on the laptop. Don't like the Windows 10 interface either but could I suppose get used to it eventually and ignore all the blurb about getting Apps and mobile phone related stuff and news feeds etc etc.
But can't access my Seagate Back up drive, my Norton web protection stuff won't work with Edge, can't get my Blackberry Q10 to link and today can't find my directories and shed loads of files written in MS Word- the icons are there but the dam things won't open - the new File Explorer widget says they may have been moved or renamed and no amount of searching will open them. .
Back to Windows 7 - the restore seemed to go ok although now searching for the programmes which will have to be re-loaded........ Censored
What a complete and utter ballix

I agree with you tradewind,
installed from 8.1 to win 10 and had so many problems Big Cry
The worst was that Skype would not find the built in webcam, tried the forums, all the known fixes, contacted microsoft who blamed Skype, contacted Skype who blamed Microsoft and after 4 weeks went back to 8.1 in frustration.

It was 4 weeks of wasted time Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

After 3 months of using windows 10 on my laptop I've gone back to windows 8. My laptop was just getting slower and slower and freezing quite alot. When you upgrade to windows 10 you have a month in which you can down grade. BUT as long as you have your original product key you can down load windows 8 from Microsoft and do a fresh install if you decide after a month that windows 10 isn't for you. This is what I did and the re-installation of windows 8 went smoothly.

My Windows 7 PC was running slowly after the windows 10 upgrade. Ive borrowed some memory from a PC at work and now my PC is running a lot better now. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I just had to rebuild someone's laptop where the hard drive had failed completely. I installed a new drive, downloaded the win10 installation file off the MS website onto a USB and installed everything fine. The amazing thing is that it never asked for a product key (I didn't have one anyway - no sticker on laptop) and the system activated itself OK. I can only assume that MS are keen for everyone to get on Win 10 asap. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Apparently Windows 10 has a digital key so Microsoft know from your IP address etc if your machine has had Windows 10 on it already. This makes it so the machine activates itself. This is what I read last night. When I re-installed Windows 8 last night I wasn't asked for a product key. I could have done a clean Windows 10 install but decided to go back to Windows 8 as my laptop worked fine on 8, I didn't fancy trying Windows 10 again. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

Interesting except that the family have four PCs on site at any one time and this particularlaptop that I rebuilt had never been here before so I don't buy the IP address theory (which incidentally changes every time your router resets unless you have a static IP address). 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
