United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

Dual filament bulbs (i.e. normally H4) aren't designed to run both filaments, so they should be set to switch - not used in the FL2 though.

The big issue is that the higher efficacy filament burns out sooner by nature unless great effort is put in to make it last longer. Considering that's not entirely in the manufacturer's interest, they choose to the keep bulb life short and cost down, meaning you have to buy more bulbs...

Been running Nightbreaker Unlimited for about a year now. They are much better than the stock OEM, but they last no time at all, especially for us in countries where DRL are the law Sad On average I get about 2 months out of a lamp, but it's worth it for the extra light they give. I buy in bulk and have mastered changing them in around 3 mins.

It does actually say on the box that they are medium life / high performance, so it's the price you have to pay to see where you're going. The OEM lamps are really poor in my opinion, like tealights in comparison.

So far no exploding lamps, just straight failure.

Re: Halfords + 120% bulbs

I made a couple of posts in December saying how good these bulbs were in terms of light output. 2013 MY using HB3 bulb
Fitted 1st week December 2015 and I noticed one not working on Monday, yesterday second one out so NO headlights. Fortunately home just in time using fog lights.
Both bulbs shattered and left hand jammed on dip. Going to see Halfords manager tomorrow, appointment made by Halfords customer services.
I have had a look at lamp internals and it seem possible to strip and remove broken glass which I assume is jamming shield or solenoid.
I will update after visit.

i had exactly the same issue with exactly the same bulbs

reported it to halfords ( DM me and I will give you my case ID) and they promised to update their system. It seems that their EB bulbs are slightly longer and jam on the shutter. When the shutter hits the hot bulb - bang. You cant get the glass out of the headlight but you can un jam it buy giving it a poke with your finger ( Yay landrover assist did this *twice* for me)

annoyingly a preventable issue - i swapped back to the OEM bulbs ( Philips 0730067 9005-PR HB3 Premium 60W Bulb) and have been fine ever since

This is a Halfrauds +120% bulb that I ran for one week I think. I swapped them out as the beam pattern on one light was really poor. You can see why. It wasn't like that when I fitted it and I wore gloves , not that you need to touch the filament on a HB 3 bulb when fitting them. I commuted 20 miles each way to work in the dark, so they ran for about 5 hours max.

I am now running a set of Bosch bulbs that don't claim to give any extra light, but seem pretty good to me. I gues the message is to steer clear from Halfrauds own bulbs.

Gav.

Edit. My bulbs are not the +120% bulbs but are still the brilliance models. They are a touch longer than the old Phillips I took out as they were a bit yellow and dingy looking. The Bosch Pure bulbs I am now running seem ok.

Headlights

Headlight bulbs on my FL2 SD4 dynamic 2013MY regularly fail.
Last time they both blew together whilst driving up M1 at night. When they blow rear lights go out as well...not good.
Bulbs don't just fail they explode into tiny fragments, almost to dust!
Fit new headlight bulbs and all lights work.
Last time was mid June - 4 months is longer than normal for mine to last. I do not now use auto headlight setting and bulbs seem tolast longer.
Anyone else had similar experience...
Cheers,
S

depends on the bulb and whether you car is fitted with halogen or xenon

are you using brighter aftermarket halogen bulbs (e.g. Halfords 120%/Osram etc) or standard ? ... the brighter ones will last a shorter time due to how hot they get.

If they keep on blowing then it could be a vehicle issue

FYI I put Halfords 120% brighter bulbs in my Evoque and one blew up exactly as yours has. Ive replaced with another 120% bulb and will monitor to see how it goes
