2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey
Heelp..

Just about to drive off and the system started displaying all sorts of faults such as HDC, transmission and one or two others. Now no power.

Is it a fair assumption that all the faults are as a result of a lack of power and this may just be a battery thing?

Called out Recovery, but need to know if I am possibly going to get anywhere when they come!

Hi, replaced my original battery last november. Date stamp on top was Dec 2006.

I had to check twice. It was almost 9 years old. Freelander 2 GS Stornoway Grey
Jan 2007 Bought 71,000 miles. Currently 149,300 miles.

Remember in the old days where we would undo the caps and pour out the acid then let the crap settle out. Next wash out the cells with deionised water and pour out more Censored then put the acid back in? Generally the Censored at the bottom was shorting out the plates so even though you lost some battery capacity it kept it going for a year or two or until you sold the car. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

You just have to be careful when mixing acid with water or water with acid, get it the wrong way around and it can blow up in your face Shocked

Whilst you should always take care with acid/water issues the reality is that it only really matters when adding water to concentrated sulphuric acid. The reaction is exothermic and causes local boiling hence the "explosion" (of bubbles) if you do it the other way around (or use dilute sulphuric) the water absorbs the heat more effectively and although it still heats up it doesn't have the same spectacular effect. This is why it's possible to top up your battery acid with distilled water without taking special precautions.
