I would have thought so as if the flap had stuck shut it would not allow oxygen through to the engine, the engine would not start and your battery would go flat quite quickly.

Cheers guys fingers crossed. That makes sense if no air... I don't always trust these aa diagnostic machines so not altogether surprised the throttle body code didn't show up...The glow plugs did show up but he dismissed that as insignificant now waiting to see if aa mechanical breakdown repair cover cough up.....actually if it is this I am quite pleased coz I have put soon much f ing cash into this car and the engine roars nicely when on song and we have a great model with the toys.. Hate the thought that if it went for all the hassle I would end up financing a Kia with warranty... This is now my 4th non start in 4 years and it wears you down. Will update if not fixed. Thanks again.

Now wont start again.......... Twisted Evil Twisted Evil after having new throttle body and glow plugs...

Picked it up yesterday...started fine this morning 2 hours ago and now it wont start for my mrs.....the AA on the way....spoke to gargae could it be a dodgy battery.....if they didn't charge it back up (and as its the original which tested fine at Halfords 2 months ago)...or maybe this earth wire problem??

PS the mecahnical breakdown cover paid out on the throttle body but not a genuine part until they said they only pay out on genuine at a dealership...which is clearly illogical and unfair ..so that's fine but need a car!

If youve still got the original battery from 2007 then its done extremely well, I know they can fail all of a sudden when one plate starts to go, and of course the cold temperatures right now never help the fact either, maybe it is just that?
Expensive though if it wasnt really required.

You need a new battery whether that is the problem or not.

ok ta chaps will do...but would- if they exist- any connection/earth issues be solved by new battery? i just want to make sure when they chnage the battery that they look at any corroded earth wire or the like................

No, changing the battery will not fix a poor earth connection. They should be able to check the earth connection, some people have added an additional earth strap onto the starter motor.
