Bull Hill at the top of town shields the transmitter, with the hills around here, it drops in/out quite often, oddly some stations are worse than others Confused

I tend to find Heart radio on FM drops out at Lancaster, on DAB around Kendal but the BBC stations never drop out. I6 WITH GAS CONVERSION

I bought the DAB module 2nd hand off ebay, all the other stuff came from Dan. And I forgot to add the VAT which you guys will get slugged with...

A new DAB module is going to be something around £340+VAT, hence I went for a used one.

You need to specify which sharkfin/dome as well, if you have Nav or not, etc... 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

So thanks to your guide i have now just ordered the parts apart from the dab unit and L band shark fin from Dan @ Duckworths.
Parts from him come to about £75 and I found a DAB+ unit on Ebay for £85.

Just need to find a garage to switch on the DAB now, so if anybody knows one in the Northwest please let me know.

Wow, jumping straight in!

I just checked and DAB in the UK is broadcast on Band-III so yeah you wouldn't need the roof dome either.

BUT

One thing that I didn't mention before is that this retrofit is only possible on a Mid-Line / High-Line audio system (Alpine Branded) and not possible with the Low-Line system as it does not have the MOST fiber optic network.

So which system do you have Mr Crompton? EDIT as you have an HSE I guess you have the Alpine system.

As for CCF editing, maybe have a look here on the forum at the threads for the headlight upgrade, any garage that edited the CCF on a pre-2013 car to do the headlights can also activate the DAB.

And I must say, that the DAB really goes hand-in hand with the Premium Sound upgrade. It's amazing to have such sound quality from "the radio". 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Really pleased to find this thread having just bought a 09 MY HSE spec complete with "Premium" radio (Alpine) with "FM/Digital" button. I was really pleased to think I had DAB until I tried to cycle the button (as specified in the handbook) to get DAB. No joy. Went back to independent dealer who, whilst not having advertised the car as having DAB, did say at one stage that it did. I find it hard to believe that LR can sell a car for which it clearly states that the Premium ICE system specifically comes with DAB. It is NOT caveated by "Where fitted". If you dont want DAB then you can get the "standard" radio. The digital button is not, as some have suggested, about digital tuning. Car radios with variable vane capicitors have been gone for a few years now!!
I have managed to get the LR dealers in Glasgow to print out the build spec for the car which they have emailed to me which is very useful. However DAB is not specified. Sad

So, whilst this was not on my list of to-do items when I bought the car a few days back, having found this thread I think it must be now! Good write up Thumbs Up

All the parts come today for the install so I jumped straight in and cracked on getting it done.
Thanks to cambo for the information and pics bit it did take a little time to work out where to put the 2 optical cabled but then I figured out that I had to remove the small one that links the Bluetooth to the amp and run the new cables one into each.

Just need a dealer to switch it on now. Does anybody know one in the north-west? I've try'd A1 in Bury but he said he doesn't know what to do. I6 WITH GAS CONVERSION

Cambo,

Would it be possible to provide further info on the CCF editing. I've tried an independent and the local dealer and neither know what to do.
What sort of s/w do you need and how much can you tell about how to do it so I can go back to them

CCF field - DIGITAL AUDIO BROADCAST
Change setting from - WITHOUT DIgital Audio Broadcast to DIGITAL AUDIO BROADCAST.

Frankly!
If it was me and the LR dealer or independant told me this I would walk away as they either don't want the work or don't know what they are doing. Either way I wouldn't want them working on my car!

Doesn't this ring alarm bells with you?

A dealer can't do this activation for you. It is blocked in the later versions of their SDD diagnostic system.

In the old versions of the SDD (and before that, IDS) the CCF fields were unlocked and they were able to make such changes. In fact I discovered during my research into making this retrofit, that indeed many early model Freelander 2 were also retrofitted with DAB, and at that time only dealers could have done it.

But sometime in the last few years, it was blocked and they could no longer do it.

So if you find someone; an independent workshop, or perhaps even a dealer who still has an old version of IDS or SDD still going, they have the tools to do it.

The other system which can do it is the Nanocom from Blackbox. But it needs to have a Freelander 2 license, and you need an account to use their Genesis site to edit CCF. Also note the Nanocom only supports FL2 up to 2012MY.

There are probably other ways, I have been told that the AutoEnginuity diagnostic system with Land Rover package can edit the CCF, but I never saw it in action.

Having the tools is only part of it, knowing how to use them is another matter. As Stuart so elegantly explained Wink

I mentioned before, that if a garage or workshop was able to do the headlight upgrade by editing the CCF, then they should also be able to activate the DAB. So have a look here on the forum, since a number of people have done the headlight upgrade, and therefore had the required changes made to the CCF. 2008 Freelander 2 HSE Si6 Black/Black - Hers

Thanks guys - very helpful.

My issue is that I am in Northern Ireland and dealers are few and far between. The main one looks like they only really want to sell new range Rovers and anyone who doesn't have at least £50k isn't fit to darken their door.

I'll try and search around for some more independents who might have the systems/software you mention 2007 Black Freelander 2 HSE - hers

Ok think I might have found somebody so pressing ahead - have the DAB unit already.

Only thing that I am not sure on is how to drop the roof lining. Does it just pop off like the side panels or is there a technique that I need to be aware of.
Also not sure if I need to power any of the equipment with a 12v fly lead or not? I know you did Cambo but it looks like this may not be necessary, is this right?
