Rear axle noises...

Its really doing my head in now but when driving along and going over the tiniest of bumps there is a ratlling kind of noise from the rear wheels - more so the drivers side but I am not sure if that is just because im on that side.

Also when slowly going over speed bumps front goes over lovely and then back drops like a sack of potatoes with a loud thump.

I have taken it to 2 garages and had all the suspension checked over and both say they can not find anything wrong and would pass MOT.

Have you got anything loose in the spare wheel well?

100% not and I have even taken out the parcel shelf and the cover that goes over the spare wheel as it did not seem fixed down very well

Are you sure its the back?

I had a similar sound but it turned out to be a missing brake caliper clip that holder the caliper tight to the caliper bracket.

Worth a look

I've had a noise which I feared was diff, land rover said it was wheel bearing failed making noise!

My handbrake cwas useless so i thought I'd get shoes replaced & wheel bearing done the same time, turns out wheel bearing was fine & the noise was caused by the springs in handbrake being loose & going around the hub inside , so much its warn a groove , hence poor handbrake, so may be worth checking your handbrake fittings ..

That is really interesting because I was only thinking just 3 hours ago how crap the hand brake was recently.

It's worth investigating, mechanic was quite surprised too but he said defintley nothing else wrong it was just the noise of the clips & springs grinding away , new spring & clip kit is on order & should be back on road tomorrow, my handbrake was never brilliant but gradually got worse until the point I had bricks at the wheels .

The electronic parking brake fitted to later models is very good though, and a much more effective one than the old manual drum one.
