Brodit sat-nav mounts?

I've read up on the various sat-nav mounting options on the forum, but am looking for a solution that lets me remove the GPS unit quickly (other than the usual stick-on-screen mounts). I've used Brodit mounts on previous cars, but the three options for the FL2 all seem rather badly-positioned. Two of them mount low on the centre console, and the third mounts behind the steering wheel near the driver's window, far from any power connector.

Has anyone used a Brodit mount on their FL2 and, if so, which position did you choose? Are there any similar alternative mounts on the market?

You could try http://www.dashmount.co.uk/sept06/711069.htm

Not sure if it's higher than the brodit ones though

Thanks for the reply. That looks very similarly positioned to one of the Brodit options:

though the Brodit mount is probably a lot easier to fit. I guess I'm stuck with a low console mount, unless anyone else knows of an alternative that mounts higher? Perhaps the higher positions are avoided in case an airbag deployment would turn the satnav into a missile? Confused

Yep, I've got one of those but it unfortunately doesn't do everything I need - I can live without TMC and Lane Assist functionality, but I need the ability to navigate to a set of coordinates (I geocache, and parking spots are usually provided as coordinates). I love the Sony's nav software otherwise, but it's missing this critical feature - and it's one of the few satnav units that can't be "enhanced" to run e.g. TomTom Crying or Very sad

I was toying with hard-wiring the Sony and then having a separate mount for another unit to use on the occasions I need to navigate by coordinates, but then I thought - why bother with the Sony at all? I may still do that, but I need another mounting solution either way.

just thinking out loud, but i was watching a gadget program and they was reviewing camera tripods

The was one called a Monsterpod, which basically allowed you to stick it anywhere you liked etc

You might be able to simply mount/stick it to the dash and quickly remove it along with the satnav

http://www.monsterpod.co.uk/index.html

might be no use at all aswell Whistle Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Hmmm, the FAQ is a little off-putting:

Can it fall off?
MonsterPod™ was developed to provide a temporary mounting device for compact digital cameras. It is designed to hold a 10 oz or less camera for a period of time long enough to set the automated timer and take a picture. It will begin to ooze (stretch) from its location after several minutes.

Oozing, eh?! Shocked

I have a brodit mount to the right of the stearing wheel. It is not obstructed by the wheel and gives me somewhere to put the phone when its in the car.

I dont have any power leads or the like up to it, but looking it wouldn't be to dificult to route a cable behind the dash and to the fuse box if needed. Look at the intructions for the ipod integraion instalation on http://www.ownerinfo.landrover.com/ for some hints.

I will take some pics tomorow and post for you to see the clip in position (very easy to fit).

Cheers

Chris

My only worry about mounting something on this side would be driving round town with the windows down, and someone grabbing your phone.

I guess that's why they've fitted aircon, so I can keep the windows up Rolling with laughter

Right hand side?

Either way, thanks for the photos - I think I'll go for that option, and hope that the satnav's batteries last long enough. I guess I can always get an active cradle later, if I need to.

Thankfully living in the Isle of Man its not a problem I have ever encountered, hopefully never will.

Anyone tried a Brodit angled mount which fits on the centre console? I am looking at ways in which to mount my Nokia N96 so that I can get power to it and still receive a signal for the GPS.

At the moment I am using a cheap suction cup which I have on the right hand side of the windscreen, but I can’t power to it easily. I don’t like sticking things on the centre of the windscreen so I thought this might be the best solution.

The Brodit isn’t cheap at about £35 for the full kit, so I thought I would see if anyone a tried it and could report on the quality of it.

Thanks
CC
